Heya,
Im currently doing up aload of my spare DE as my VC army led my a female necromanceress (DE Sorceress conversion).
I was wondering if anyone else had done this using mostly DE models and how they look as Undead riding cold ones etc? I would love to see some pics as im struggling to see how to do my cavalry.
Im using a mix of Black guard and Executioners as my GG.

Thank you

Hey!

Basing an army on DE is a nice idea and perfectly doable. Not that many do that but you could check this thread out: Link

Its hard to find, I've been searching this forum too, but you could poke around some more and maybe find a log on here too.

Undead riding cold ones, do you make the mounts dead too or just the riders? Sounds like a bit of a pickle there... undead horses are much easier as there are a multitude of models around. :)

why not share what progress you've got so far with us here?

In the Dead shall walk... there is plog by Tribun of undead dark elves that is really nice that and definatley worth checking out, im sure there are some others in there aswell. Good luck and lets see some pics

I will keep you all updated on how i will be doing these models. The cold one knights i was toying with cutting the stomach out and green stuffing some ribs on. Hoping this will look like they have died and had there stomachs eaten away, before being raised back to fight.

My main issue atm is lack of undead heads :( I'm waiting till i get upto 50 posts to advertise for some on here :)

heya,

Sounds like a great idea to me Borak. I remember reading the new dark elf book at there is the mention of one of the darker elven gods that controls the underworld... sounds like some good potential background to me!

For the cold ones you could consider modelling one with the lower jaw copped away and the tongue lolling down like it's decayed so bad the jaw fell off. OK, it can't bite anyone anymore, but it's just more angry for it!

It might sound strange, but perhaps you could model things like the harpies to be zombified and little dark spirits (bits from the wood elf sprue, the sprites) or the familiars packs riding on their back as dark spirits guiding them in flight might work - I am thinking a bit like the tomb kings carrion here.

Good luck - looking forward to the pictures

Yeah the Elven god of the underworld is called Kelemvor if i remember correctly.
The cold ones idea about the mouth is good i will have a play around later with that :) thank you.
I looked at using dryads for spirthosts banshee etc, my biggest issue is with a vargulf and what i use to resemble him. I toyed with Treemen, Hyrda, conversions, but im thinking more towards a Carnasour conversion job.

Im going to try and use some lizardmen bits and bobs aswell. As the fluff is that they have left Nagaorth to head south to lustria to practice the dark arts in secret.
For dire wolves im not sure whether to use wolf models or more lizardmen conversions based on maybe saurus.

Will add pics as soon as ive got some conversions done :)

Sounds great to me, I can see the worry about the vargulf and the wolves... hmm.

What about some kinds of undead jungle cat for the wolves? I am not sure what models you could use for it though. Alternatively, in keeping with the reptilian theme, how about some converted Chaos Demon Flesh Hounds? Take off the crests, and perhaps use them on the things backs as a sort of ridged back wing? Don't know about that one, need to think it through.

For the vargulf, you could go go down the giant dino route, or what about some kind of large animated Khainite statue? After all, a bit of greenstuff and the Eldar Avatar will look like a massive animated Cauldron of blood statue

Then again... why does a Vargulf need to be a creature exactly? Strange idea popped into my head, what about a floating ball of dark magic with multiple heads, a bit like a magical vortex crossed with a hydra. Something like a floating Stargate (check out the movie or something) discharging evil spirits as it floats across the battlefield sounds fine to me. I am thinking the Lizardmen's "Engine of the Gods" but with no need of the Stegadon to carry it! You could use the stegadon as some kind of large monster (Abyssal Terror?) and the Engine of the Gods wheel thing as the vortex?

Anyway, I'll be waiting to see what comes out of your dark dabblings

Crap ran out of heads.....does anyone have anyone have spare undead heads :( just started my GG/BG conversions and realised im out of undead heads.
