Hello!

I'm looking for some plastic, convertable miniatures to use as my Grave Guards with great weapons. I want them to look like dead crusaders, either something similar to the old GG models or something more armoured and shiny, like a Foot Knight. Any suggestions? The only options I've worked out thus far is the new GG's, but they are too shabby and look like dead marauders.

Ideas are much welcome! And, don't hesitate to post if you can find some suitable metal models as well.. But I reckon I'm going to need to convert a lot, hence why I look for plastic ones. Silly GW who has no armoured legs available.. How hard could it be?

EDIT: The models are to compliment my Crypt Keeper champion, which is a Blood Dragon vampire model with a twohanded sword, the one from GW. I cut off his head and gave him a Brett Knight's buckethelmet though.

How about the Black Orcs? You'll have to convert them a lot, but I can't really remember anything in more armour than them

The High Elf Spearmen also have quite some armor, but I'm not sure if that's the kind of armour you're looking for.

Same goes for the Dark Elven warriors, although they get a +, because you can easily use their shields as crusader shields.

Ofc if you really don't know what to do with your money, the best thing to go for is Warrior Priests of Sigmar, but a unit of 15 GG would cost you £125 WITHOUT the skeletal parts you need for the conversion ;)

Problem is that I barely have any money. ;)

Did you mean to use whole Black Orcs, or just the legs? In any case the new GG's will look better, methinks.

I did think about the Elves, my brother have a lot of HE and I have a couple of DE myself. But they don't look european enough to go with the Knights of the Realm torsos I had in mind.

Old emp command sprue has armored legs on it, and there's 2 bret foot knights in the classics section. Dunno where to get the sprue though

I know of them, but every pair of Empire legs would cost me like.. 6£. And the foot knights would be even more expensive, and they're metal. Thank you anyways. ;)

Neh, not really.. They don't have any torsos. I've been looking for new models a long time now, and I think I'll just buy the new GG's when they come. Thanks everyone for helping me! ;)

Why don't you just use normal bretonnians? Their mounted legs you cut the middle off and then greenstuff/glue the legs together so the look normal.

Saw down the saddle or make a sort of tabard sort of look perhaps with greenstuff. The feet will have the stir-ups sawed and cut by the ankle glued in same place after sawing it so their feet flat and not on an angle.

The lance arms can have the hands cut off and replaced by a different sword weilding hand and the joints cut and sawed so they are in the position you want.

Then you can just greenstuff broken/dragging chainmail where you can have a zombie piece of rotting flesh showing or holding its own head like the headless horsemen. The shields can be greenstuffed as to look like the paper is peeling/ripped in some areas.

To make them look like different crusaders from different parts then give some bucklers and axes and/or a fleur-de-lys or cross. Then to make others look dead you can just stick a weappon in their bellies, if your enemy still believes he is living then I believe any store will give you permission to slap him silly.

You could do the same thing however with empire knigh body and legs with bret helm and arms so they have chainmail with some platemail, it'd cost more however unless you asked around and bought parts from auction or people.

Anyways thats my suggestion, it wouldn't cost to much I'd believe...Though if you bought the boxes instead of ordering you'd have quite abit of extra horses (a future customized plague cart, coach etc perhaps?) I would think they'd come out looking similar to dead crusaders.

That's a rather good idea.. I always assumed it wasn't possible to convert the legs in a good way, but what you're saying sounds neat. I'll see if I give it a try, or just buy the new GG's anyways.. Seems there's really too much trouble in doing anything else.

The Reikland knights on foot classic blisters would fit the bill. They are seriously armoured. Although it seems theyve taken it off the stores.

I second that. I've used these as Grave Guard since way back before whenever and they mostly have quite accessible waists (one of the ones with double-handed swords and a couple of the ones with hand weapons are probably best for serious saw duty).

Ok, I have a good idea. Meybe You can buy the Royal Infantry of Zvezda, a Russian manufacturer. The Royal Infantrys are 28mm too.The 20 models box is only £12.5. You can use their bodys and leds as GG, and add the heads and arms of GW undead. I have use this way to convert a GG (the mid one ).
