The best way to deal with a Phoenix of any kind is how we deal with everything.
Scream, Blender (With TOS) or generic tarpit.

If it has a rider he also dies when the mount does if you have read the rules for it, in the case of the Flamespyre however he can return with his mount as well.

It is worth noting that it is only the Flamespyre that kills the rider if the Phoenix dies. The Ice one, if you kill the Phoenix, nothing happens to the rider.

Even then, all Dual Engines do in that matchup is shave off a casualty, which helps, but is again moot if the thing won't charge you on your terms. They're real useful against the Elves, though.

That would be more comforting if the phoenix couldn't also revive said character. :grave:

Maybe in 9th edition we will get a giant undead Scarecrow :) Then Shareya can sleep again.

We have one, Monsterous Aracana from Forge World, I think its called a Necrolith Colossus which is a Giant made from body parts and you can even make it a wizard if a necromancer is built into it as part of it, not riding it.

I had assumed with it being the same drop he would still die but if this is the case for 15 points its allot more viable as a mount but the stand alone I would favour the fire.

It is more of a disadvantage than an advantage to them when fighting VC, as only canon balls kill them both at the same time ;)

Perhaps.

But, don't forget that the phoenix gets +1 to the revive chart if it had a rider.

So, it (and the character) revives on a 5+, and only permanently dies on a 1.
