So let's start another log for my next projet.
It's another vampire army, because the themes come just too easy for them.
This one is a Cthulu-themed Strigoi list, which means lots of ghouls, bats and wolves. Plus some Zombies thrown in there so I can have pirates. Yarr!
Thematically, the vampire lives in an abandoned lighthouse, so eventually everything will be based around either the lighthouse or the rocky shoals surrounding it. I'm thinking I'll have a "dead fish" color on most everything, but we'll see how that turns out when I get to that point.
Let's do some pictures!
This is the ghoul that started it all. He's not going to be in my army at the end, but works as a good stand-in model, now. Tentacles for the win!
These are some of the ghouls that have followed. No base work done, yet.
Next up, Bats!
This guy was my first fell bat, I think. You can see others in the background.
Body and head are ghoul bits, legs are Deamonette claws and wings are from the Hordes Harrier Light Warbeasts. (They can be bit ordered!)
Close-up of another bat. You probably can't tell, but a couple of them in the background have tentacle-faces, like some of the ghouls.
I wanted to do something different (there should be lots of variation in this kind of army, right?) I love the little pot bellies these guys have.
I don't think I have a picture of it, yet, but I put the bat head on the wolf body for one of my Dire Wolf conversions. I've only got the one put together so far, but he's looking pretty good, I think.
Next up, Wolves!
Easiest. Conversions. Ever!
I'll eventually modify a couple of wolves so that their tentacles touch when base-to-base. That way I can say, "Awww, they're holding tentacles!"
(Okay, it doesn't have to be funny for you. I'm the one who gets to play it, though, so I can have as much fun with it as I like, thank you very much!
)
Doom Wolf!
Like I said above, I have a bat-wolf, but no picture. Soon. Probably.
Next up, Vampires!
Two of my vampire stand-ins. Both are stock models out of the blister. One is a Confrontation Darkness elemental, the other is a Hordes Everblight Forsaken. Both are on custom (but easy to make) bases.
Standard bearer on foot. My current list actually uses a mounted standard bearer (for the armor), but I made this guy up and really like him. The body is from Wargods of Aegyptus, the Heru "avatar" (I've forgotten the real name). The standard is from the Dark Elves corsairs. If there were a better angle on it, you'd see the Cthulu head banner topper.
Any guesses where the head comes from? Here's a hint: it's GW and pieces of the unit it comes from have already been used in previous pictures.
A close-up. Very bestial!
Next up, Big Monsters!
Did someone say Vampire Monster?
My varghulf. There is virtually no modification to the base model, except to angle his one foot a little bit. His pose always made me think he should be angled like so he can be hanging off something.
His base is the mast and crows nest of a sunken ship. I'm hoping to build the "shipwreck cove" look into some of my other bases, but we'll see what can be done. Maybe with some ghouls, so I can break them up a bit and not have to deal with trying to get them to fit together in a movement tray.
Rawr!
Next up, EVEN BIGGER MONSTERS!
My original army build had my vampire in a unit of Black Knights (since they can run on water), surrounded by fell bats and bat swarms. Then the idea for this monster came up, and he's going to be in my list from now on.
What a beast! I love this guy!
A normal ghoul can stand underneath that rocky overhang. This guy's a monster, as appropriate for a large terror-causer.
The main body (snake-like tail, chest and wing-spines) are from an old VOID Korralon critter. Don't remember the name. The head and tentacles are Reaper pieces, the head from their Cthulu monster and the tentacles from their "Well of Terror" (?).
It's tough to see, but I took out a section of back-ridge to add his saddle. I'm not happy with the saddle itself, yet, so expect some change there. The vampire and the saddle are magnetized, for easy storage.
The vampire on top of this bad boy is made from Brettonian pegasus rider pants and Dark Elf Corsair bits for the rest. That's a VC shield, though, so he's officially made from vampire parts.
A shot from a bit more around the side. This might give you some feeling for the width and depth of the model. It certainly gives you a better look at the tentacles!
That's all I have for now. I should be building more in the coming weeks and throwing bad picures up here to keep you all appraised of my progress. Some day I may even paint something. Scary!
