The official fluff doesn't say much more than that it's roughly equivalent of renaissance Italy (though I don't own the latest rulebook, so I'm not sure if there is more there. If you're going for the tiled roofs, there's a rather cheap method of making them. Get the small plastic straws/coffee stirrers used at a lot of places (Or at a grocery store). Just make sure you get the ones that look like a mini straw.

Cut them in half lengthwise and into segments about 10mm in length, then take card or plasticard and cut it into 10mm wide strips. Glue a straw piece onto it at each 10mm of the length so that the piece crosses it. Line the strips up so that the straw pieces line up and cut them to fit the shape for your roof.

Then at each joint take a normal straw and cut in half lengthwise. Then cut it to cover the joints such as the peak of the roof or where parts meet.

Base coat black. Then have a decent layer of a dark maroon type color. Then layer on lighter shades to give it a sunwashed out look before giving the entire thing a thin black wash.

The end result looks a lot like the flatter tile roofs. For the more waved ones, simply fill the entire 10mm strips of card with the smaller straws and do the rest the same way.

Both work well for a spanish or oriental look (Shifting the shape of the roof itself tends to define which of those it is).

Sorry, I forgot to reply to this. Thanks for the detailed description! I was planning to do something like that but with plasticard tubing, but straws would certainly be cheaper if I can find some the right size. Didn't think of it before ordering, but if I run out I'll consider this

Cheapest way is to get a meal at your local Burger King and snag a handful from the drink bar. Always reminds me of when I was little and put one of the tiny ones inside a normal straw for some fun.

I use that brand and it is worth the little extra, great dimensions on some of the lengths.

Nah, it's unrelated. I'll just be spending so much money on the diorama, so I have to do some selling as well. I'll try to finish the bomber quickly and resume work on the town.

The plasticard is for buildings and details, pretty much everything I haven't already done with foam.

Thanks! They are indeed popsicle sticks, split down the middle lengthwise. I never threw any away, though it's been a while since I had a popsicle so the stash is shrinking…

The actual door is about 3,5 x 4 centimeters, but including the stone frame your guess is accurate

A little progress, two facades:

The cornerstones are from an old WHFB starter box, the one with Empire vs Orcs. There was some paper-and-plastic ruins included which I never assembled, for reasons I can't remember, but they fit nicely here.

The side overlooking the street (with obligatory Warhammery skull):

And one facing a small yard:

The yard will be screened from the street with a low wall, like this:

And finally a window I converted, also from a piece of those ruins (and with skull):

I plan to cast a few copies of that window, I figure it should be ok since the GW part is OOP and quite heavily modified. So that's why it isn't glued on yet

I'm glad you think so! I sculpted them from Pro-create, hence the plastic look.

I've begun on the roof for the first building, but it's not much to show yet. I'm going to Norway for some backpacking tomorrow, so it'll be some time till the next update, but when I'm home again I hope that an order of Blu-stuff that I placed today has arrived so I can make some more windows and finish those facades.

Home again, and the Blu-Stuff was waiting for me, so I got started on the casting. First, the mold:

It didn't become perfect, but good enough. It was completely my fault though, I wasn't fast enough and the putty was already a little brittle when I started to press it against the original. It cures incredibly fast.

Here's the first cast, in Procreate as that's what I have. As you can see I used way to much, but a little cutting and sanding later I had this:

Next to the original for comparison. Turned out pretty ok I think. One more, and then I have a finished facade…

Oh, and if this about casting is against forum rules, I apologize and will of course remove the photos. But since no-one has said anything about it in quite a while I figured it would be ok

Thank you! And don't worry about the gap, the walls are not glued together yet. They do fit snugly, it was just that old chap Gravity who was messing when I took the photo.

Pictureless update: I've been making really slow progress lately, working on roof tiles and it's boooring. Now I've taken a break from that and started working on detailing a wall section.
