since I mainly use a Necromancer to lead my army I don't think dire wolves fit into my theme(I believe wolves fit better with Vampire led armies)..I decided to proxy my wolves with rats(they slink around crypts and graveyards where the Necromancer does most of his work...)

Cool idea, I guess, but I have a hard time imagining rats with M9 and a slavering charge.

I feel like these would have worked better with bat swarm rules.

well just picture Really nasty rats...like from he sewers of New York City...lol..BTW bat swarms have the Hover rule which is the fly rule without the march option, I don't know if that would have worked any better, but I would have loved to use the rule where the enemy always strikes last that the swarm has.. I still may make some "bat/rat swarms" in the future..

I think it's a very characterful conversion and I like the reasoning behind it. Modeling-wise, I might mix up the colors a bit and do some spots of different-colored rats in each "pile" to break them up a bit, but I can see why that might be more time-consuming than it's worth. Looks like you used a wash to delineate the different bodies and it worked pretty well, I'd say!

And anyone who has tried to hit a rat with a shoe can attest to movement 9!

I'd like to see the rest of your army! I think a gigantic rat swarm of an army would look great on the tabletop, especially against a Skaven army, haha. Keep thinking outside the box!

Awesome! I actually considered this when I was starting my army, but couldn't find any suitably swarmy models. What did you use?
I found them on eBay new at a discount...but you can get them here

I wasn't sure after I painted them how good they would look all multicolored...I should have done them all in one color I think...but I guess they're not too bad...I did mix and match the colors but after a while it gets tedious so they end up wherever in the unit...I plan on posting my WIP Terrorgheist conversion. So keep an eye out for that..thanks for the positive feedback

BTW..I primered them all white and used 5 different washes on the minis...then just spray coated them with clear matte..I was thinking about dry brushing a lighter coat on them and doing the eyes and tails..but I just paint to play, not to win Golden Demon awards, so most of my cannon fodder units are just minimally painted. I take a little bit more time on my large models and hero minis

I like these!

It's very easy, in amongst all the amazing painting and conversion and fluffification that we do, to forget that beneath all that artistry are a bunch of gaming pieces. Well done on keeping your eye on that ball!

The other beauty of a quick and simple solution like this is that if in future you decided to up the level of painting on your army you have a lot of fairly simple options and don't feel like you are throwing away a lot of previous work.
