As I've learned, the moment my general dies as a VC player I lose the game, can't keep fighting when half your forces evaporate. What might not be so bad, though, is if lone casters are immune to crumble when my general eats it. Does a necromancer on a corpse cart or abyssal terror spontaneously implode when the general dies (those are always the units I roll boxcars on the Ld test!)? It seems counter-intuitive and overly brutal, but I couldn't find any rule to disprove it.

Well if the necromancer uses lore of vampires he will take control of the army and stop the crumbling (though he will not become general for march purpose)
though otherwise yes he will need to make a test as he is not in a unit where the casualties would be basic troops and he is not a vampire.
So he would take a crumble test but he has a much higher leadership then the rest of our army so hopefully shoulndt be that bad.
Remember if your bsb is within range you can make a reroll on crumble test.

So if another caster in the army has Lore of Vamps, they get to instantly take control and there's no initial crumble roll? I was under the impression that there was still 1 crumble roll before the presence of another caster halted it.

No, you are correct, You initially crumble from the general dying but only once if there is another lore of vamps character. Lone monsters (TG's, corpse carts, Abyssal Terrors) all have to take crumble tests and it sucks real bad.

Another question on crumbling: models with the Vampire rule do not crumble. So what happens if a Vampire is in a non-vampiric unit when the general dies? Does the unit crumble, or is the presence of the vampire in the unit enough to stop the crumbling? I think not, since having a vampire in a unit also can't make it march?
If so, do the crumbling wounds carry over to the vampire? So 1 vampire and 4 zombies, roll 12 for crumble = 5 wounds: the zombies disappear, but does the vampire also get a wound?
What if, what if... just interesting to have these scenarios discussed :)

You roll for the unit only and remove casulties from rank and file.

You do get to roll the test using the vampires leadership though.
