Do you use night shroud?

Oh boy, what have I stumbled upon here :O

As for the night shroud no I don't use it as I find a ward save and an ogre blade to be a better use of points on my blender. Not that it's no good but I feel there are better options.

Might take it if I take a ZD though as it would work for the dragon too.

I've been toying with the idea of placing it on a mounted necromancer next to a vampire in a black knight unit... you don't get the same affect as a wight king who is more survivable and can actually kill something, but the versatility of a mobile death/loV caster is appealing.

I play against a lot of white lions and hammerers, and the night shroud, other tricksters shard, and talisman of preservation all work super effectively together (Lord has a lance due to botwd being used a lot).

The night shroud only works against attacks from models in base contact though so supporting attacks still use full strength.

This is my main issue with it. If it worked against all attacks it would be much better.

Doubly so if you're charging things in the flank or rear where they don't get supporting attacks.

Like if you're using a zombie dragon ^_^

If I'm running my BK bus I put the NS om a WK and put him in the middle of a lance formation and my blender Lord on one side and a hero vamp on the other. Both vamps usually have either a 1+ or a 2+ AS and a ward save. Really limits the high S attacks from the front rank and only the limited attacks from the support rank get their full S.

I have noticed that people seem to avoid putting the Nightshroud on their vampire general, instead equipping a nearby character with it. Why is that?

@ Flint13
As you can't afford a ward save and a nasty killy weapon, at least that's why I don't.
Wight king with great weapon and DBG next to my blender lord on foot, nice to accept challenges with aswell.

Because if you place the character carrying the Nightshroud next to your Vampire Lord, the protection extends to the Vampire Lord as well. Not the +1 armour save of course, but if anything is in contact with your Vampire, chances are it will also be touching the character with the Nightshroud. It also means the Vampire can direct his attacks through the models affected by the Shroud, just in case any of those suckers also have ASF (like Elves, for example ;) )

That is exactly why. Well said.

I find this really not to help too much, since you're only affecting 2 models at most since it doesn't extend to rear ranks or all 3 files.

This is true, but a Vampire Lord is T5, with a 1+ and 4++, so generally not going to suffer much from supporting attacks. The key is that anyone he swings at will have the ASL rules so he gets the most out of his attacks.
