So what kind of shenanners can we pull with the new end times magic? I haven't read the rules yet but someone said you can cast a spell as many times as you want and loremasters can re-roll their casting dice? Sounds like we can take invocation spam to a whole new level!

Except the difference in power dice to dispel dice is still the same so it is unlikely to get more spells off then you already do.

Is end times magic end times only? If not you can use mannfred and cast invocation a bunch of times on 1 dice with re-rolls.

th

That is all.

Spells with 15+ casting value can't be cast multiple times AND you roll a D6 every time you cast or dispel to set the max dice you can use. So purple sun is actually harder to cast. Sorry Sunny :(

Are these rules scenario specific or are they just general additions? I'm hoping they are more scenario specific. It'd be fun to try in a couple games but I'd rather have magic remain the way it is.

@najo so do you roll a dice when you cast a spell and that's the max amount of dice you can roll and THEN your opponent rolls a dice and that's the amount he can roll to dispel or is just one dice rolled and that's the dice you both can roll to cast and dispel?

Rules are summarized here: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B3YisezIcAEjIkr.jpg:large

Roll separate D6s for both.

Wow... so after reading that I have one question. Does your opponent get the highest 1d6 from the 4d6 you roll for the winds of magic or the highest 2d6? Am I missing something? It seems to imply that your opponent only gets the highest die roll for his dispel dice.

If this is the case I fear what might happen in the magic phase.

The way I'm reading it is that you roll a d6 every time you attempt a dispel, this then gives you your dispel dice against that specific spell. So, no more generating dispel dice. The casting player is limited by the Winds of Magic but the dispelling player is not and can always dispel. Seems like a fair balance to me. Magic becomes more fickle but more powerfull.

I would suppose that certain items like Mannfred's sword and the Black Periapt (or channeling for that matter) would give a Dispel Dice pool which you can use freely between dispel attempts. Which in turn, makes Mortarch Mannfredd a beast and the Black Periapt almost an auto-include under the End Times Magic rules.

Certainly, it would seem that smaller spells become king and the larger unit-removing spells are significantly more difficult to cast. In my humble opinion, I applaud this move by Games Workshop, no more 6-dicing Purple Sun or Dwellers and hoping for IF sillines.

Loremasters of Hoeth are going to be a staple in any elf army. They know ALL the spells in the BRB.

The utility! So good!

Turn 1: Nagash casts VDM a gazillion times and we end up 1'' away from the enemy army.

Turn 1 (opponent) "well... that escalated quickly...."

@Macarian if that's true then magic is super fickle and you'll only get spells off through IF or extreme luck. If you cast more than four spells your opponent has more dispel dice than you have power dice. Don't even think about one dicing stuff because your opponent automatically matches your one die and most of the time has more than one to dispel.

I really hope that's not how it's played. While I've always wanted to play certain games without a magic phase or even just a limited one this is just not what I want.

I read that as the caster gets 4d6 and the dispell pool doesn't change (eg highest 1d6). You then both roll to see how many dice you can use for each particular spell and assign these from your overall power pool. I think 2d6 would be better but oh well, time to buy Mannfred!

His rule for re-rolling one of the winds of magic dice is super powerful now. Re-roll that 1d6 that landed on a six to drop your opponents dispell pool to nothing.

Add to that his magic sword and a necromancer with the black periapt for a really powerful magic phase.

Elves will be really nasty but I'm certain we will see more miscasts there.

Also "magic of the end times is listed as a special rule for a scenario" gives me hope that not all of the game will be affected by this.

The rules state if your opponent wants to use it you have to. The other conditions are for scenarios and if one person brings a combined elf army or uses any of the new units from the khaine book. I personally don't think I'll be playing with it that much but I won't know for sure till I try it.

There is a bunch of other leaked pages. I could of sworn I read there that the dispel pool is the two highest of the 4d6.

Yep. They are! haha.

Instead of having a 1-3 spells magic phases, we will have like a.... 4-6 spells cast per phase (1 of them being the End Times undispellable magic cast).

It'll try it out when the book is released :D

It's my understanding that Dispel dice are the 2 highest d6s rolled for Winds. And that this whole magic shake up is if you've got a Khaine book Elf list across from you only.

It says if either player wants to use it you have to use it as well. Regardless of armies.

And if you don't want to play it the police show up and make you play the guy?

"I want Khaine magic."
-"I don't."
"The rules say we have to battle."
-"Yeah, have fun shooting spells at an empty table edge. I'm a grown man. What am I, honor bound to play a game I don't want to?"

Sounds optional to me.
