Epidemius

So I finally got a mach up against Daemons of Chaos. The list evolved around Epidemius in a unit of small daemons. and if I get within charge range of the unit he either backs up or simply leaves out the back side of the unit.

Now the problem is the zombies and chaff that most VC lists need actually just FEED THE MACHINE and basically in turn 2 of the game all daemons now have +1 strength +1 toughness and killing blow on models that already have killer stat lines !!!

Needless to say i was tabled in turn 4.

My question obviously is ............... How does VC beat this army?

Screams, redirect his blocks until you can get something into base contact with Epidemius. Flying Vampire would be able to fly out of the unit and assassinate Epi. Vargulfs work too. He's good but not great in combat.

Don't feed him zombies. That's the easiest way to make his units killy. Grave guard are a good foil since we have access to GW and can reliably get past the toughness of plaguebearers. You could add black knights with a vamp or two. Flaming banners work too.

I can reliably beat everything in a nurgle list except a greater demon. I haven't found a way around that yet.

The way to beat these lists is to hunt him down with anything that can munch him in 1/2 Combat Phases.

This includes: Vampire on a hellsteed with any of the 2 2+ Ward Save vs Flamming Attacks (because Daemons can only shoot at him with Flame Cannons), Vargheists going up against him, Terrorgheist screaming the hell out of that unit, Black Knights/ Blood Knights flanking and chasing him and maybe Khorne Cannons.

Now, don't be fooled by challenges and stuff: If anything other than characters gets in B2B contact with him (I'm talking about Vargheists here), never declare a challenge, nor accept any challenge his unit's champion offer. You don't have to, and thus you can squash him with Vargs.

After that, Nurgle just becomes... annoying, but not auto-win against you!.

Vargs will assassinate this character? I thought he was more killy than that?

No. Not really killy. He just has 4 wounds which is annoying. He's tough but he doesn't do a bunch of damage. Really he's a great support character.

Yeah, Vargheists struggle a bit to Hit him, because of the Nurgle rule, yet once they get past that, wounding him is easier.

The very best way to reach him is with Cavalry. He stands little chance to Black Knights with a Vampire inside. And Cavalry can chase him down very nicely. Also, Death magic on the chubby daemon.

Well if you get within charge range he will just take the character out the back side of the unit letting act as a shield.

Im considering switching tactics and taking Manfred 2 death necro 2 banshees and 2 engines and go all death council regeneration GG hord.

The Idea of course is having the snipe spells and getting 2 doom and darkness casts.

(Give up nothing but take from them... everything).

Also, once you've dealt with Khorne Cannons, no daemon is safe from a Terrorgheist on his own. He either stays within his unit and dies like a... manly daemon.

Or he flees outside and regrets it.
