I have wanted to do this for sometime but never gotten around to it. I have played Undead since 1995, and mostly I could say I just have a shambling hoard of skeletons and zombies. So the question is, how could you run a ethereal heavy army, and would this be feasible.

What I am thinking is have a 1-2 blocks of skeletons, then 15-30 Spirit Hosts, 1-2 units of Hexwraiths, 1-2 units of Cairne Wraiths (rare choice) and 1 black coach. Can an army like this work? and how would you use an army like this?

Then beyond this, which would be better to take in an army like this, Hexwraiths or Spirit hosts and why?

I'd use it with Kemmler to keep the theme running.

The thing missing for me here is a hard hitter. There are a lot of attacks but the coach isn't going to go Monster hunting for you and with so much working against you in this respect (magic especially) you need something with a bit more whack to make this work.

Ok so what could you use to be the hard hitter? I am not saying have everything in the army ethereal, just the majority.

Lord mounted on monster (im not a fan) + black knights with barrows. drop some specials cuz you cant cant cant, get caught vs someone like dwarves and magical shooting and skaven and magic:grave:. dire wolves are a good solution to help out with the 25% for core while also maintaining some manuverability. I'd also go to 1 giant block of skeletons.

Agreed with wolves for casters/Dwarf magic cannon hunting especially, and Black Knights can pack a punch, and are still semi-fluffy to your theme with their ethereal move.

So would going 2 units of 5 black knights be good or do I need larger units. Also would black knights mean no hexwraiths or use blackknights with hexwraiths?

10 black knights sounds fair. 5 hex wraiths, too much of a point sink otherwise. This pretty much taps out your special depending on how many points you are playing with. Spirit hosts are a good swarm option from special units, maybe have a couple units of 5 maybe 10 bases? idk 10 base swarm unit sounds unheard of to me.

for rare wraiths with banshee are still pretty good, but dont get more than 5 models.

80 man block of skeletons is nice if you want the 25% core in a box.
Zombies a good option when in numbers larger than 40.
