Not much O&G stuff done these days other than my competition entry (I'll post him in a few weeks), but I have been working on bits here and there between doing my VC stuff.

First up is a few homemade bases I put together for the Snotling Pump Wagons I have planned for the future:

I wanted to try out @Lord Elpus 's basing tip (over on Da Warpath) where he glued kitchen towel over the undesirable gaps on bases, which I can say worked out nicely and saved a fair bit of greenstuff.

I also put together a 60mm squared base for the Skull Pass tent, this'll serve as a night gobbo unit filler:

Speaking of which, I got that one prepared for assembly during a work lunch break the other week and put it together:

I green stuffed the area inside the mouth as I plan to paint it as though there's some green light inside the tent, suggesting a shaman inside chanting spells.

I also put another bunch of Skull Pass spear gobbos together ready for some paint the next time I fancy a break from painting VC:

Regarding earlier posts:

@benvoliothefirst Since my last post I've swayed my decision more towards using cold ones for my night gobbo 'wolf' rider mounts since the savage boyz are quite stocky and the cold ones are prettty thin. Plus a giant unit of 20 raptors will look pretty darn cool!

I like the idea of sculpting fur over areas, and I'm sure it'll work well but I am completely new to sculpting fur so I'll have to try that out

@Borgnine Wow, thanks a lot mate! That yellow is definitely a love/hate scheme - I'm not much a fan of the yellow gore gruntas but the red ones they've painted look pretty cool. I had to go for black armour though as I wanted him to meld in with my black orc side of the Waaagh

The reins aren't actually too bad. I'm considering opting for cold one mounts for the night gobbo cavalry, so reins wouldn't look out of place. The saddle parts however will, so GS fur and cloth seems to be the obvious way forward.

Nice project. I agree that the Raptors would look better as substitute wolves; perhaps one of the older Cold One sculpts (which were bulkier) might be better for Orcs, if you can get them?

A little side project I did a few weeks back for the latest competition over on Da Warpath:

The category is 'Brave or Just Plain Stupid', so I fashioned a daredevil doom diver gobbo. I happened to get a goblin head with shades in a random bunch of spares I bought ages ago and thought that it would make a good addition to my O&G at some point, and so here it is

To add a bit of character, I wrote some fluff for him:

Two-Flight Jif:

Two-Flight Jif got his nickname after being found alive embedded in an unfortunate ogre's belly, barely conscious & with only a few missing teeth after his first bout as a Doom Diver, something seen even less so than a troll with intelligence. Since recovering, he's developed quite a reputation among his peers as a courageous fiend of the sky and has become a bit big-headed & adopted something of a style for it, doing away with the phallic-shaped tin hat donned by the other Doom Divers and instead keeping his usual attire & sporting snazzy shades he looted from the corpse of a dwarven gyrocopter pilot a while ago.


@Shadespyre I agree mate. I've since bought some more gobbo wolf rider legs and am in the process of getting some cold one mounts (DE style). I think I'll just stick to boars for the orcs as I wouldn't likely use the boar mounts for anything else.

Wonderful work on that gobbo! Seems a perfect fit for such a competition topic Is that a hood you sculpted behind his head? So a night goblin doom diver? That's even more awesome It's also quite funny that he's not wearing the helmet and despite that he has such good survivability

It's been a while! Some night goblin 'musicians' I converted for the current competition on Da Warpath:

I've entered them as musicians but have decided that they'll make great additions to the squig herders instead.

Here's the before shot:

Inspiration came from a few things I've seen in China. The guy on the left is holding clapper sticks:

I've seen these on TV in China. The audience usually have them so they don't have to clap all the time...

The guy in the centre has a singing bowl:

These are used in parts of Asia to help get rid of headaches and stuff by moving the stick around the inner side of the bowl and placing on the affected body part. Of course, banging it makes a loud noise and can therefore herd squigs reasonably well. The guy on the right has a flute (which kinda looks like a blow dart come to think of it).


@Borgnine Cheers buddy! Yeah, that's a hood I've sculpted for him. I don't want anything common in my O&G, so all the goblins are night or forest, and all the orcs are black or savage.

16 more Night Gobbos to join the ranks:

These round up the spears unit to 35.I like painting these as they're pretty easy to do and look cool when done.

I've got shed loads of these still left unpainted and plan to beef up the ranks with a bunch of fun fillers in the early part of next year.

I'm working on the Skull Pass tent filler I put together earlier this year:

I've gone and painted the inside (which I covered with greenstuff) as though it's glowing with green magic/fire. I'm in the process of painting the exterior now but I'm hoping I'll be able to enhance the affect later with a bit of OSL around the mouth area.

After seeing Anton's (on Da Warpath) war machines he put together last year, I decided to pick up a couple of these a while ago:

I'm now also in the process of piling together parts in preparation to assemble a few rock lobbas and pump wagons next year.

A few Skull Pass characters to join the ranks:

The shaman is vanilla but I wanted to relieve that boss of his squig and have him pointing towards the enemy, so a spare ghoul hand and a bit of green stuff came in handy here - plus one free squig to add to the herd later on

My first time sculpting areas of robes. The conversion wasn't particularly hard and I'm happy with how the finished mini has turned out.

I recently painted some zomblins (zombie night gobbos) for my VC army and thought I'd share them here:

I've also put together a few more Night Goblin unit fillers:

My current NG units are composed purely of single miniatures and absolutely zero fillers right now, so this year I'll be building some fillers and completing the current ones I've got on the go. I want to bolster the gobbo ranks, break up the uniform appearance that's currently there and also add a bit of action & comedy that better shows greenskin behaviour, so we have...

• Image one - a goblin picking on a small squig with a cheerful snotling observing the event,
  
• Image two - a bunch of gobbos forcing a couple of snotlings to a fisty death match,
• Image three - a fanatic starting to go on the loose mid-regiment thanks to the crafty snotling behind him holding the fungus brew.

These fillers should be quite quick to get done.

In the future I'd like to add more ideas I've jotted down, including:

• a doomdiver being shot down for target practice by his comrades,
  
• a bunch of goblins getting lashed on a keg of fungus brew,
• an unfortunate doomdiver who lost control of his wings and ended up flying into the ground/a large rock.

I've also got that bound-up dwarf from the Skull Pass set to make use of in a filler too...

I've been working on fillers for my night goblins this month and have just got around to taking some pics:

NG Filler #1: Snotling duel:

This one was inspired by someone else's work I saw on DaWarpath a while back. It's a cool idea that really shows goblin nature. The 'poking goblin' had his arms repositioned slightly & filled with greenstuff, and the other miniatures didn't require converting.

NG Filler #2: Skull Pass idol:

I picked this one up off eBay a while back with the intention of using it as a big filler for my night goblins. Alas, it's finally complete. This also served as a lab rat for my first attempt at OSL. Here's a close-up of my efforts:

I'm happy with it as a first shot. The intention was to suggest that there's possibly a shaman in there chanting around some green magical fire.

NG Filler #3: Fanatic on the loose:

Zero conversions once again. I was toying with the idea of having a snotling being pulverized by the ball, but I decided to keep it simple. Definitely an idea for future fillers

I'm also in the process of putting a mini 2-base filler together using one of the twin snotling miniatures:

I've got a few of those snotling twin minis and plan on using them for fun fillers rather than snotling bases. The comic appearance of them and mostly-green coverage really work well amongst the mass of black in the NG units.

Aside from a few fillers, I have just a few things left to do until I complete my current expansion list; a doom diver and a concept for my night goblin 'wolf' riders.

Some more fillers to add to my units...

NG Filler #4: The Chase:

More classic night greenskin behaviour - bully anything that is smaller than you. I'm happy with how this one sits in the unit, the red is really striking amongst the mass of black clothing. I intend to make some more fun fillers later on using squigs as they're really cool miniatures and are really eye catching.

NG Filler #5: Mooning snotlings:

More cheeky greenskin behaviour! Quick & easy to paint, and looks right at home amongst those night goblins.

I am really itching to see the whole unit with those fillers - it all looks really promising! You're managing quite well coming up with all those ideas - I struggled quite a bit with it when I tried to think about greenskin fillers The green glow turned out really awesome, too!

Another thing that I may add, larger areas of the base without anything on it look pretty strange and empty. Those stones help, but they blend a bit too much with the sand in my opinion - have you considered adding some dried yellow grass tufts? Just throwing some ideas out there

It's been a while since my last update here. I have been crazy busy with life stuff but not all has been completely been quiet on the hobby front - I've made ground on the two remaining things I have on my current to-do list.

Number one is my doom diver:

All the pre-assembly painting is done and I put it together. I also converted a night gobbo for part of the crew - he's got the easy job of knocking the peg away with his mallet, sending his comrades darting into the skies never to be seen walking again...

I'm also in the stages of putting together my 'wolf' rider concept:

I'm content with the rider - he's a classic plastic night gobbo. A bit beefier than the current ones but they make for good riders. I do however think the mount needs adjusting. I'm probably going to make the front armour plate look more goblin-y. I think I may add some moon decorations on the reins too... Any more suggestions would be welcome


@Borgnine Sorry mate, I read your comment a while back and intended to get a pic of the finished spears unit with all those fillers in. I'll be sure to get it done for the next update

Yeah, the bases do look quite flat as they are now. They'll definitely be added to in the future - I intend to use a grass (probably dead grass) and maybe put the odd homemade cactus here and there on the bigger bases. I'll put together a few test bases in the future to pinpoint exactly what I want to do to finish these guys' bases.

Nice work on the diver, the conversion on that crewman is quite simple, yet I don't know if I could come up with that too

As for the goblin cavalryman, I was really surprised seeing that - I thought orcs were going to be riding those. And it seems quite serious compared to the wacky goblin, but I'm sure you can make that work. I am also thinking about putting some mushrooms on him, those are also instantly recognizable as something goblin-y.

Dude I really love your stuff, probably your greenies even more than your undead. That green shimmer in the tent is top notch, and I love those little GS additions you give those guys. I wish I would be able to get this clean style for my own stuff

My first war machine finished - a night goblin doom diver:

I left it more or less as it comes but decided to convert a crew member to show the night gobbo alignment. The original snot with mallet was subbed for a night gobbo with a bigger mallet.

@Borgnine Cheers mate, I figured that I want at least two doom divers in total so a few conversions are in order - the mallet was just a fun yet simple idea

Regarding the cavalry - originally the orcs were going to get the raptors but then I wouldn't have much use for the leftover boars, so these guys are getting them I'll be sure to add some shrooms around the bases

@Theerteen Thank you, kind sir! Glad you like my armies My painting used to be pretty grim when I was younger but a few years and a few hundred minis later and it's quite satisfactory. I think it's all about the amount of time you want to spend on painting a mini really.

How did I miss this post?! Damn it!

The doom diver turned out sweet, proper greenskin war machine. This is also the first time I noticed that the middle part of the 'runway' is covered with something slick The unit looks awesome too, that shade of green, black robes, orange ground, it's all perfect! Fillers give them some good greenskin-y randomness - but the fillers seem to create rather large gaps though. But as I said, maybe some additional terrain features to break up those areas of sand and it'll all be nice and crowded

I've not had much of a mood to paint these days as it's been crazy hot, but I did decide to get a bunch of things ready for some paint.

First on the agenda for my O&G in the coming year is to flesh out my NG short bows unit from 20 to 50. Here are some Skull Pass night goblins I've got ready:

Nothing too special but more green for the masses nonetheless. I cut the plastic stubs off so I could position them more freely on the bases.

I've also been working on a few fillers too since I don't want to just add single minis. Some aren't finished yet (including that cauldron) but here's what I've got ready so far:

Snotling Bug Fight:

I got the idea for this one from the movie Jar Head where the marines get two scorpions to fight.

Squig Hopper Wannabe:

A wannabe hopper charging away with an arrow from an envious night goblin lodged in his hood.

Last but not least I've put together two more Night Goblin bosses:

I love painting NG characters – they're easy, quick & fun to paint and make for a nice break from painting rank & file stuff.


Regarding earlier comments:

@Borgnine Thanks a lot mate, glad you liked the doomdiver. I plan on doing a second one with the 'projectile' being catapulted and set on fire by a torch-wielding snot sitting on the frame as he's being flung by

The fillers do create large gaps in the unit which look odd, but I'll sit down and make a bunch of cacti for those areas at some point in the future. I'll also add grass to the bases too, that should sort out that issue

@Menkeroth Cheers buddy, I totally agree! I started this army as a side project that then developed into me with the intention of having a big mash of the O&G range, but have kinda just gone off on a night gobbo tangent as of late

Aahahah dude I love it. They would make a perfect addition to my circus if they ever wanna come for a guest appearance in KoW Great. I think I will steal them for a filler in the Rabble Legion (normal handweapon Gobs, in the circus case simply Clowns)

The first minis I've completed since May

11 Night Goblin Archers from the Skull Pass set. These were the perfect warmup to the hobby after a very busy summer of decorating, etc. Probably another boss coming soon...

@Borgnine I rarely go out looking for inspiration, it just happens by Those bugs - I believe the beetle is from the plastic Fanatic kit and the snake thing is from the Kurnoth Hunters set.

@Theerteen I have no idea how to play KoW but If I ever make it to Germany I'll be sure to bring some fillers so you can borrow them to destroy your mates (or yourself, hearing of how goblins operate)
