Favorite Medieval Weapon

The gruesome injuries that all of the mentioned weapons are capable of are anything but "girly" in my opinion, heheh.

Anyway, what I prefer with axes and clubs over swords more than anything else are their relative ease of maintenance and generally being less complex. Put a nick in the edge of a sword (which is deceptively easy to do) and you'd want to take care of it as quickly as possible, if at all possible, or else you risk that it will gradually become a point of focused pressure that could eventually cause the blade to simply break in two, especially longer blades. The shorter blade of an axe, on the other hand, has a lot more support from the haft it's mounted on and will survive a tremendous amount of abuse before it will actually be in need of a repair.

Also, don't dismiss all axes and clubs as crude and clumsy weapons so hastily. With a good enough balance, even an axe as long as 170 centimeters can be swung and recovered as swiftly as a significantly smaller and more nimble weapon. I've even gotten to hold one and give it a quick spin myself. :)

Ack, I'll stop myself here before I force any more of my own opinions onto you, heheh.

Axes, Maces and Flails are awsome weapons,Ment to crush armor and shatter bones, though I find Swords to be kind of girly
There's nothing girly about swords. At least with a sword you can effectively defend yourself as well as attack. Axes and Clubs are crude weapons especially two handed ones. The power might be there but unless you can hit the target in the first attempt you're just leaving yourself open for a potentially fatal counterattack.

It's crude by who's standards?
Sounds more like opinion to me.

I suppose in the heat of combat you will be displaying some outstanding swordsmanship and sipping tea while hordes of " messy" savages bludgeon you to death with their "crude" weapons eh?;)

No tea, but outstanding swordsmanship sounds just right!

If you're very good at sword fighting, or a natural (like me) you fight instinctively, concentrating on which parry or attack to do simply takes too long, all the fighter does is let instincts take control.

Since I took fencing lessons for a few years when I was younger, I'd say a rapier. It can be used for either fast attacks and efficient parries, taking advantage of your opponent strenght to divert his weapon and hit him all at the same time. In fact, when you're enough skilled, it becomes like a natural extension of your arm.

But I guess bringing one in a medieval battle would be completely useless, due to the lack of the space needed to use it properly. I'd go with the standard, reliable longsword (possibily double-edged) in combination with a shield. The sword is the only weapon you can use effectively to parry attacks and having it combined with a shield makes you really hard to hit. I've always found the +1 bonus to the armour save when using hand weapon and shield a very realistic rule in warhammer.

I remember trying to hit a guy at the medieval-fancing lessons that was using longsword and shield, and it was really wearing, even using a two-handed sword!
