I tend to find that a support vamp is my prefrance. i like HoC with alot of magic from our own and others, let the whight kings cut people down its their job my job is to go around sniping genrals raising D3+9 zombies gotta love that thing and genrally being a neucance. also meatal devowers knights and chaos.

I dont like to have my genral in the front as he is often not able to grant his wepon skill where it is more usefull and help out a combat lord does serious damage but not asmuch as possibly 40 attacks with VDM re roals on 7 wepon skill some strength buffs and attacks in the magic phase.(i do sometimes use my bounditems like the staff and such on a cheap necro)

Favorite Vampire build? Definitely the support kind. Just the sheer advantage that a support vamp can give to the army, especially that GG squad, is all the motivation I need to run one, especially one with Forbidden Lore (Light). Being able to cast all of the spells creates some ridiculous stat lines regardless of base stats, an invaluable option in 8th edition especially with the mass amount of infantry being fielded.

I tried the support and caster vamps at the start of 8th and lost every game.

I switched to combat and started winning.

Vamp lords for 3k points:
General:
Vamp Lord 380 points:
Sword of Strife
Flayed Hauberk
Crown of the Dambed
Infinite hatered
Red Fury
(Optional Beguile)

Anti Skaven/Empire/Dwarf:
2nd vamp lord, 370 points:
Warrior Blade
Charmed Shield
Power Scroll
Wristbands of Black Gold
Flying horror
Forbidden Lore (Death)
Hunter in the dark

The way I see it, you either have a hybrid vampire or a CC vampire. Even if you go all magic, lots of the points are still tied up in the vampires awsome stats, which are made for combat. The only way to make the most out of your points is to go all combat. But thats just my opinion :)

6 rerolling attacks, needing 2's to hit most of the time, and extra attacks for each wound you do is just awsome. Plus a T5, 2+ AS, and 4+ WS will keep em alive if you keep your casting in check.

I love combat vamps, my main lord is a red fury, eternal hatred with sword of +2 str, crown of the damned and the light armor that gives -1 to hit to anyone atacking him, he is very hard to kill and do seroius damage.

I've got two favoured builds for Vampire Lords that I use. They're both designed for games of 1500 points, which means that they cannot exceed 375 points in cost.

Caster & Support...

Vampire Lady - Hellsteed, Forbidden Lore (Vampires or Light), Lord of the Dead, Wristbands of Black Gold, Helm of Commandment, Shield of Ptolos - 370

She zooms around the battlefield to deliver some helpful boosts and spells, paying little heed to the majority of ranged threats. Alternatively, she can roll with the Armour of Destiny in place of the Shield and Wristbands.

Now, for some sweet Close Combat action...

Vampire Lord - Red Fury, Infinite Hatred, Lord of the Dead, Crown of the Damned, Flayed Hauberk, Sword of Might - 370

Pretty straight-forward, really. Just start ripping into the opposition with some S6 attacks. :) He could also have a Potion of Speed on him to make use of those last little points, but I usually roll with that trinket on a Wight King instead.

@Master Spark - What else do you use with the combat Vamp lord? With so many points invested in the lord and very little magic support do you take Necromancers in your hero choices in order to offset your exposure to magic?

I am currently looking for a decent Lord choice for when my escalation reaches 1500 (currently sat at 1250 which I think is a little too small for a Lord) and whilst there are some excellent ways to spend the points I fear investing too many into my Lords and Heros and sapping all the options away from my Core and Special.

I make sure to bring a Battle Standard (most often in the guise of a Wight King) to offset the Stupidity from the Crown, and then usually a Necromancer as well to make sure that I've got access the Vanhel's Danse. All in all, about 40 percent of my points will go towards the characters in a typical list.

Why not Of death? Seems very useful on a character like that

Read about this on another one of the forums. What do you guys think: too cheesy?

Count Mannfred

Book of Ashur
Skull Staff
Abyssal Terror

Essentially, you can't play him unless you have 3000 points (although you could theoretically do that if you scrap the AT). He's running at +6 to cast and dispel, he generates an extra 2 PD for himself each Magic Phase, and he gets an extra PD for each wound he inflicts with his sword. On top of all of that, he comes pre-packaged with the Lore of Death. As far as survivability goes, he has 5 wounds on his profile and an extra 4 for the AT.

For Example, with the +6 to cast, he has around a 60-70% chance to successfully cast the Purple Sun (not powered-up) with 4 dice. In my opinion, the ONE thing that he lacks is Summon Ghouls, so he is unable to raise Ghoul units past their starting size.

I've not gotten the chance to run him yet (I got too caught up in the new Combat Lord possibilities in the 8th edition), but he seems like he would seriously crack some skulls.

Sounds very filthy. Approved :D

Even though i really hate special characters.. It feels like cheating. :<

This has been talked about before on here.

I should point out that he knows all of Death and all of Necromancy (14 spells!). Also him casting the small Purple sun with 4D6 is a 94.6% chance of getting it off and a 13.2% chance of miscast. Also keep in mind that he will only have a 4+ AS and no WS.

Myself I'd be more tempted to put him in a unit with regen BSB than on his own. Maybe put em on a mounted nightmare and put em with some Blood Knights, then he would be 2+ AS and 4+ regen.

Well, the main point of the AT is so that he will still be a force in CC. Plus, he can fly around to get a better angle at the Purple Sun of Broken-ness. If you want to blood knight bunker him, you could try a Hellsteed. You won't get the extra AS for barding, but you will still get Look Out Sir and can potentially fly out and purple sun some war machines/large infantry blocks.

Personally, I like the AT because those kind of mounts just make people afraid. It provides an unbeatable coolness factor.

my favourite one is
Vampire lord
Dread knight
Red Fury
Eternal Hatred
dragonhelm
sword of bloodshed

this little dude got a 1+ armour save (DONT BOTHER ME) and 8 attacks wich can be re-rolled to hit

(i once forgot carstein ring only worked once and when we were comparing chars i raised konrad 37 times (oi)

You can't have 2 magic items from the same item category, in this case you would have to choose either the spellshield or the dragonhelm...

buccer forgot
that makes a dragonhelm (unit is joined by 4+ regen save)

How would you build a scouting / Etheral vampire lord and i wanna try and utilize something like wristbands+lycan talisman combo, any recommendations?

My favorite really depends on the list type im playing, when build a vamp lord i generally lean towards the combat type, it always includes Infinite Hatred and Red Fury. I like scouty lords too but really only run them when I can run 2 lords.
