Hi,
I am new to vampire counts, but not new to Warhammer. I have been playing Bretonnians for nearly 13 or 14 years and for a while Orcs and Goblins. I got rid of the Orcs and Goblins (well sold them to my brother who plays them now) and I have nearly finished my Bretonnian army, which has now won two best painted awards (which doesn't really mean that much if you saw the other armies I was competing against).
I have now set my eyes on Vampire Counts as my next army. However there are some restrictions, such as money and time. I have managed to try out two VC armies with proxies, once it ended very badly on my 2nd phase of the game (I miscast and sucked my vampire lord into the warp when rolling 3 dice...) the other game however turned out much better. I'm at the point where I know I want to play Vampire Counts, but I'm stuck on what kind of theme I want.
First, I prefer skeletons over ghouls, although I'm not against 1 unit of ghouls in my army. I like a mixed vampire lord who is good in combat and in magic, and I really like the terrorgheist.
I currently have one VC model and it is the new wraith which I won at tournament last weekend. So before I go and buy any models, I want to plan what I should buy.
My first goal is collect a 1000 point army, then a 1600 point army.
The idea I have been thinking about is that my VC army is attacking an empire town/hamlet/or village. So I could have units of skeletons marching through the streets, possibly setting fire to buildings (if thats something the undead would do). Maybe have the terrorgheist blocking the escape of the inhabitant fleeing the town, maybe have the terrorgheist on a bridge blocking it. I was thinking that for a unit of Black Knights, if i take them I could have them appearing from a forest edge along a path running down some escaped villagers.
Basically the idea is to have each unit either attack, chasing, destroying or whatever else you would do when attack a village.
My other concern is what color scheme to use. I was thinking Sylvania black and red or black and purple. Another idea I was thinking of trying is paint as if it is night time and have different light source illuminating the models from different angles. It's hard to do but I kind of want to try it.
The last point is, which empire state would an army of VC likely be attack and what is their colors.
Any ideas, advice and suggestions are much appreciated.
