Like I stated in the post this my first ninth age army list and I'm going up against Lizardmen. I think the game will be around 2000pts.

Lords:
Vampire Count (Nosferatu), Book of Arcane Power, Talisman of Shielding, Staff of Gerhad the Black, Blood Magic, (Necromancy) 490pts

Heroes:
Vampire Courtier (Nosferatu), Dispel Scroll, Arcane Knowledge, BSB (Necromancy) 185pts
Necromancer, Unholy Tome (Necromancy) 100pts
Necromancer (Necromancy) 65pts

Core:
42 Zombies, Standard Bearer 131pts
40 Zombies FC 135pts
40 Skeletons, Spears FC 210pts
20 zombies 55pts

Special:
2 Phantom Hosts 60pts
2 Phantom Hosts 60pts
Cadaver Wagon, Endless Horde, Bring out Your Dead 110pts
4 Vampire Spawn, Skirmishers, Champion 187pts

Rare:
Shrieking Horror 245pts

1998pts

All the characters and the Cadaver Wagon go in the unit of 20 zombies. I spam invocation (everyone takes it), and grant my troops lightning reflexes. The skeletons form a strong center in horde formation and the zombies flank them. Shrieking Horror screams at stuff in combat because my troops do jack all. Vampire Spawn look for flanks. Phantom Hosts are just some cheap chaff that can serve as a pseudo tar-pit if need be. As this is my first go at ninth any suggestions from more experienced players are appreciated.

@Quinten: A bit too much magic items on the lord perhaps ;)

I quite like the list, very simplistic. It does one thing and it does it well, spam zombies. You might run into trouble due to the lack of hard hitters with this kind of list, but in my experience they are still fun to play. Two things I'd like to point out though:
  1. You lack an Arcane Item on the second necro. A quick fix for the list would be to give the Staff to the hero vamp and the Dispel scroll to this necro.
  2. You also lack a magic banner on the skeletons, which strikes me as a waste. You might want to consider War Standard for its all around usefulness. Or Icon of the Relentless Company to give you that one turn of super speed. Either to put pressure on the opponent early on, or to skip across the board near the end of the game to claim objectives.

It will certainly spam zombies well that's for sure, I hope you have a good 400 of them or so lying around for this game. I'd love to see a battle report this this army. @Mad 'At is right, you might have trouble killing some stuff, but who cares because ZOBMOMBIES! I'd make a similar list if I had enough models for the zombie horde, I only have roughly 120.

I can raise lots of zombies. (Where is the zombie emoji)
I have about 200 zombies which may not be enough.

I'm afraid 200 zombies won't be enough with that list. you start with 142 and per casting of IotU you gain on average 48 more (not counting the Staff). I'd say an absolute minimum would be enough to support at least 2 uninterrupted castings, so around 240, but more would be better.

Your math is a bit off. I only start with 102 zombies. I would not play this list again as it is too reliant on one 2d6 roll going your way. If you mess up on the winds of magic your army is done.

Good Zombie spam list. With a 5+ for the spell you're casting it on a 3+ with one dice with your general and a 4+ with your others. Even a roll of 4 gives you 4 shots at casting it and very few dispel attempts for your opponent so i think you can plan for getting 2 off per turn, so 4D6 + 6 zombies per turn. Not bad. A good magic phase and you might get 3 or 4 if your other spells are good. Don't forget you can also raise new units, though that spell isn't as good as it used to be because it's starting size is only 2D6 +3.

You need more fear. Fear reduces the leadership of the unit in combat by 1 so your screams wound on a 3+ against LD10 and a 2+ against LD9, very useful if you ask me.

The phantom hosts are just more chaff, I think you'd be better spending the 120 points on a regiment of crypt horrors or splitting your vampire spawn into 2 regiments so you have something to hit with.

Looks like a REALLY fun list to play, I'd love to hear a battle report.

I played the game and it ended in a draw. My skeletons broke after being charged by an oldblood on an alpha carnasour, temple guard, and a teradon (all at the same time). He played it fairly smart and focused my units with a lot of his so he could kill them one at a time. I rolled a 3 for one magic phase (even after the re-roll) and that really hurt me. At the end of the game I had killed 882pts and he had killed 846pts. He seized two standards, I'd seized one and no other special victory points were awarded so the game ended with just over a 1% difference in points. An obvious draw.

If the game was seven turns he would have beaten me. His carnasour was in a great position to charge my vampire spawn, and my remaining phantom host was screwed.

That's ok though because you only play to 6 so there's no point protecting flanks at the end of the 6th turn. I want to know how you screaming horror went. As much as it's made of glass it's still a deletion machine, did it manage to get any kills?

It killed the teradon in one scream. It was an ancient teradon with a thingy on its back so it made back its points. The following turn my skeletons broke and it got slaughter (over 10 wounds of overkill if overkill was athing in one on one combats) by the oldblood on an alpha carnasour. It was really cool while it lasted.

The vampire spawn basically killed everything other than the ancient teradon that the shrieking horror killed. All his skinks, his skink high priest, and tons of sauraus. They literally tied me the game. Without them I wouldn't have killed anything.

Edit:
I just added up the vampire spawn's kill total: 662pts

Clear MVP's and an auto-include in my future lists.

I think this is a common problem with VC lists, destroy just a couple of units and the rest can be mopped up.

Sounds like a fun game though, great report thanks.
