Well while i'm waiting on my VC units to arrive i thought i'd have a rake about in my old bitz box for some FB stuff to put towards maybe a unit of zombies and i found this old Skeleton -

I dont remember ever buying any undead miniatures so who knows where it came from.

I've only put base colours on it so far, i'm probably going to work the plate mail with some gold and wash down the chainmail.

Like the work you've done on the metals so far. IMO starting with a vermin brown basecoat will get you a quite cartoony looking bone colour (but that isn't necessarily bad). Anyway we'll see how i turns out once you finish it.

Cheers, Wolfie

Great looking mini. Ran your picture through Gimp to brighten it up a bit.

Anyone know what make this guy is, I have loads of old Skeletons in my army but not this one.

That's a nice looking model and it's an old Citadel one.

The metal is very nice (as is the base coat for the bone) but it's a bit too shiny. I.e. there's no rust! Thinned chestnut ink will help you with that! :)

josef - how did you 'fix' that picture?

The skull looks really nice on the pictures of josef. Very crisp and clear yet very nicely detailed with the crevices on the side of the head. Those oldie models sure have got nice character to them!

Hey, i'm crap when it comes to pics and messing around with them, but that looks much better. I had a long night (ashame for the Cardinals) :(
Anyway, i recieved my VC book and a unit of Grave Guard today so i've just been looking over them since getting home from work.

For this Skele, i have repainted the plate mail parts with Shining Gold/Tin Bitz mixtures, i do have a few inks - Brown, Red, flesh and purple washes. I'll switch over my progress to a log as i start the GG unit though.

Thanks.

i actualy like the brown bone. Gives it an aged look to me. Bone isn't white unless bleached or baked in the sun in a very dry enviorment. It dries to a yellow brown when in the earth moldering. i actualy think it looks more like what bone would look like if recently removed from the ground.

It is possibly a little disturbing how you may know all of this.....o_o

I have a friend who use to make things out of bones. Sold them at the events where eveyrone dressed up like they lived in the middle ages and pretended to beat each other up with wooden swords. He made necklaces out of bird skulls and such. I helped him clean and prepare the bones quite often. Trust me you wont find super white bones without some type of drying.

Hehe, you just made my skeletons look like a bunch of clowns.

Really I didn't know this. What about the bones when still living?

They tend to be covered in this red, squishy stuff called meat:|. You need to give them a really good rinse.

I used to work with a guy who'd collect interesting skulls and bones. His friends would bring him road kill and bit from hunting trips. He never knew what was going to turn up.

He had a small pit in his back yard he would put things in, then cover it with a board. After a couple of months, the resident bugs and worms had done all the cleaning for him.

They're white as a sheet! I was watching a tv show about bad accidents had when doing sport and there was a guy who broke his hand and the finger bones were popping out of it - absurdly white!
