Hello,

After flipping through the book a few times I came up with this army list. It is the first VC list I have created and would like some comments on it. The list is supposed to be magic heavy and tries to raise a lot of zombies each turn.

1 Vampire Lord; +1 Magic level, Master of the black arts, Dark Acolyte, Lord of the dead, Skull staff, The flayed hauberk 440

1 Vampire; Dark Acolyte, Lord of the dead, Black Periapt, Nightshroud , Sword of Striking 195
1 Necromancer; Sceptre de Noiret 80
1 Necromancer; The book of Arkhan, Corpse Cart, Balefire 190

12 Skeleton Warriors; FC, Banner of the dead legion 141
19 Skeleton Warriors; FC 172
10 Crypt Ghouls 80

19 Grave Guard; FC, Screaming banner 298
7 Black Knights; FC, Banner of the Barrows 253

Varghulf 175

Total Points: 1999
Power Dice: 12
Dispel Dice: 7
Models in Army: 71

There are a few points that I still have questions with.
- The number of power dice seem a bit low for a magic heavy list but not sure how to increase them.
- The army books states the Varghulf and the Blood Knights as vampires, does this mean that they each provide 1 power dice and can all cast IoN? So for instance a unit of 5 blood knights generates 5 power dice and each knight can cast IoN?

TIA

Your questions:

11 PD is fine, trust me. You'll be casting most of those one at a time, requiring two dispell dice in turn. With 2 good bound spells you'll dominate the magic phase in almost every game.

No, only character vampires get magic levels.

I'd suggest Dark Acolyte over Forbidden Lore. FL is nice in that you can pick a different lore, but IoN and Danse are your bread and butter spells really. So unless you got plans in a different lore I'd go with +1 PD and spell vs all spells in LoV.

Interesting lord setup. Lets him stay in combat and have some survivability. However, do consider Helm of Command and just hide your lord in a unit...giving off WS7 to a key unit can be very important.

The other vampire is interesting. Give the black periapt to a necro (Realize that you can only store your own PD for the dispel phase, so it's better on a necro in the odd time you want more DD). Give the vamp a better weapon at this point, he goes first so take advantage of either Killing Blow or more punch: Sword of...Kings, Might, or Striking will due.

Necro's are decent enough, i'd go as far as saying drop one for points. I fell they are only worth it if they can hide a corpse cart in a unit.

10 Skeletons is probalby too small to start. You will pump them up, but at 10 they can die fairly easy to turn1 shooting...even 15 is on the small side at this point value.

GG are good...strigos banner is better though. Of course you will just wana give them BotB and give your knights the Strigos banner...why? Because your knights are supposed to charge and break a unit, so hatred is much better on them while BotB works well on the GG. However, 5 BKs is too small anyway. Solution: Drop bats and/or the GG or BKs. Your spreading your special points too much here. Drop the knights alltogether (or GG if you want the knights) and beef up your core skeletons and the knights if you keep them (7-9 is good so they can take a few casualties).

A further note is that a lot of people will be more into 2250 point values since that is the GT standard this year. You can do a lot with 250 more points, so look into that. If so you can keep your list as is and add a few knights and skeletons and you'll be all set to smash some skulls.

This is not really true. You store Power Dice which you can use as power dice in your next magic phase. Or you store dispel dice which you can use as dispel dice in the next enemy magic phase. You don't convert the power dice to dispel dice and vice versa.

I have changed the list, what do you think of it now?

Erm, it should be a total of 12PD + the periapt, you get 2 from the pool, a total of 6 from the Lord, 2 from the hero vamp and then another 2 from the Necro's combined; so I'm not sure how the list came to 11, unless I'm mis-reading something.
