Fleeing from combat and chasing

I had a Skelton unit charged in close combat, combat ensued, and then it was my turn, and in my magic phase I used the Rod of Flaming Death and wasted one of his guys in close combat with my Skeletons. His Dark Elf unit failed leadership (one casualty by the rod causes you to test), so they had to flee... Since the fleeing wasn't caused by close combat, but by an outside force, do my skeleton still have tp chase or roll leadership not to chase?
 
First off, you can't fire the Rod into CC, as it's a magic missile.

Second, the enemy unit is immune to Panic until the end of the CC phase, at which time it has to make a check if it lost combat due to all of the abuse heaped upon it by your skellies.
