Right silly question here as I couldnt see the answer in the Rule book.

Can you put a character riding a flying mount in a unit of infantry? Can I have a page number to back up the answer either way as well please as I will need it to counter some of my club mates ;)

Perfect just what I needed - a mate of mine was going to try a first tunr charghe tactic using ghoulkin and a vamp on a flying monster of some sort. Now I can stop that before he tries it.

If you ever come to the brewery you can have all the you can stomach for the night on me

Although I respect you Lord Firmshaft, I am at the moment in a funk of hatred against Dawi because my Dragonless, Treemanless Asrai, are being pummelled by Dawi armies containing Thorek and two Dark Emissaries. Between the Anvil and two Fog of Death, my entire army can be destroyed in about 4 turns, and I just have to sit there and take it.

He mght be able to do what he suggests by putting a Flying Horror Vampire in a unit of Ghouls, however. Without the mount, they may not get the job done. However, two or three Vampires like that, charging out against the same unit, might be unstoppable.

That isnt a Dwarf army, that is something else. Dont know what but it sure as hell isnt a dwarf army and I am really you have to play against such a brutally powergaming "dwarf" player. Gives us proper dwarf players a bad name, it does.

Don't want to hijack thread, but he and his two mates who use similar armies are a right pain in the fundament (as are most other armies who field two Dark Emissaries against my Asrai) Thorek is bad, two Lord level casters are bad, the combination is almost unendurable.

Some people don't agree but I hate playing people who don't stick with the spirit of the game. There's no way fluff wise that Dwarfs would stomach Dark Emissaries, my first army was Dwarfs and I remember all the fluff, the honour code they have wouldn't allow plus thier general distaste for anything magical certainly would not allow them to include spellcasters.
People who do this ruin the game for others just becuase they have a chip on thier shoulder about winning at all costs, I'd better stop now or I'll rant all night suffice to say someone trying to pull an army like that on me would have the Emissaries rammed so far down thier throat their be farting that Fog of Death!

Can't seem to find the blighters on the UK site. Either I fail or GW Online UK does...

ArchMagos, you have my sympathy. My Chaos were pummelled by a Necrarch army sporting two Dark Emissaries back in the day. Both rolled Fog of Death, both cast it, Hellcannon crew went bye-bye along with a rank off all my units, 'nuff said. And that was an army where you might expect a Dark Emissary...

As dancman say, it's not a dwarf army. It is bad enough he uses Thorek, he alone give us dwarfplayers a bad name, but combined with to Lord level wizards is just plain evil. Tell them to go back end read the fluff to the dwarfs *grumble*

Cheers

Just to get back on topic:

The character could also use the talisman of the Lycini for M9. This would give him an 18" charge, +8" from ghoulkin for 26" first turn move.

Also (as I am sure you are aware) Danse will move you 8" so if he can get that off he doesn't need ghoulkin.

So I guess it depends. Are you taking the second company or the stubborn squeeze? The squeeze has less magic defense so might be more susceptible (and of course your whole army moves 6" forward at the start which will help him).

P.S. I hate Thorek and I can't imagine ever using elves of any kind... not even if I had an elf army... blech.

If GW did not want this they could so easily have prevented it.:(

I thought you knew. The spirit of the game and attending social contract police army selection for them. They don't have to restrict Dark Emissaries to 0-1 choices because, well, who'd take two? That would counter the spiiiriit of the gaaame...

Well the wolf form vamp would also reduce the number of attacks as he wouldnt have a mount so he should crumble to a solid unit. The other one relys on the magic so I would try my best to stop that. The ploy m mate was on about was to do it in a way that I couldnt stop and using a character that would be hard enough without risk of crumbling.

As to which army I would use vs this plying smart I think both could have a chance, though I think my second company would do better.

Considering that even most Dwarf playres dont like Thorek and then he uses magic users this person needs to think about asking for his soul back

Of course as mentioned you do need to watch out for the flying vampire variety, if he puts this on a Lord he's still got all is magic item allowance and most of his bloodline allowance to tool him up for combat and there's no way for you to dispel, he'l be able to move 28" in the first turn which means he should be able to reach most things. I suggest putting your war machines waaaaay back.
