Ah cheers for that, will have to see if I can get hold of it. I am really liking the look of Tau, think I will have to scour Ebay and see what I can pick up....

Keep in mind that IA3 was published in between the 3ed and 4ed(current) Tau codices, meaning to say it is partially obsolete. Some of the battlesuit wargear which were at the time of its printing unique to IA3 have been integrated into the 4ed codex, iridium armor for instance. That said the 2 XV8 variants are actually pretty useful because of battlesuits gaining Relentless in 5ed. And besides that there's their potential as conversion material.

The Hazard Suits mentioned by Darvy are from Imperial Armor Apocalypse II. Massively overpointed, but nice models too.

Well, over here in Australia and in GW stores, as they now stock and sell the IA rulebooks in stores they have been considered far more official that before, you no longer have to ask to use them, but your opponent still doesn't have to verse you if you decide to :P

Hey,

i have a large Tau Army and in this case also some of the Forgeworld Units and Rules for them if you are interested.

i can also give you some thoughts and my experiences of the following units:

XV9 Hazard Team
Tau Tigershark AX-1-0
Hammerhead with Fusion Cannon

Just PM me or answer here with questions ;)

I would love to hear your thoughts. Do you think they are worth the money, how do they play etc?

I am a little confused, I have now got IA:3 which has lots of Tau stuff, however looking at the Forgeworld site there is still more stuff there that is now in that book. Are there more rules somewhere else?

I am really like the Forgeworld suits, much moreso than the normal GW ones......I am think if going the expensive route and maybe getting all my suits from there xd

IA3 is quite an old book, most of the stuff in there can be found in the Tau Empire codex.

If there are more rules in another book, or those rules come with the individual suits... I dunno. It's not something that I looked into at all.

I have seen a few of those suits irl across the game table... and the ones that I saw were very nice looking (well, for Tau anyways  )

There are more rules for the latest units in the Imperial Armour Apocalypse 2 book:

-XV9 Hazard Close Support Armour
-Broadside Destructor Phalanx
-Swift Protector Wing

Alright here are a few thoughts :

I have 3 XV9 Hazard Suits and field them regularly in Apocalypse Battles and sometimes in normal scale battles too, after permission from my opponents ;)

They are expensive but depending on your weapon selection they can really kill stuff, esp. marine-type models ;)

I always take the Fusion Cascade, its basically a Multi-shot melta Weapon. i always take 2 of them per model plus shield drones. T5 is very nice, i wish all suits had it ;) you can imagine what happens to terminators and marines when hit by those XV9. i use them mainly to keep my deployment zone clear of droppods/shocktroops/terminators etc because they lack range, the fusion cascade is 12" only but i really love them, also dreadnoughts aren´t a real threat because of their melter rule.

Secondly i field the hammerhead gunship with fusion cannon part of a formation consisting of 3 hammerheads. sadly i can´t tell you that much about its efficiency, he is always the first target of enemy orbital bombardments or D weapons, which might tell you about its capabilities ;) in one game he survived and wrecked whole dreadnought formations and turned a hole expugnator squad to dust ;) with its range of 24" its amazing, also the fusion cannon is twinlinked ;)

last one is the tigershark ax-1-0. his points cost is huge, but he kills a landraider per turn or whole marinesquads because of his AP3 template. if you move him carefully out of range of lasercannons (only 36" range versus flyers) and your enemies don´t have AA weapons he never gets destroyed and can wreak havok on the table with its 108" range weapons. i´m still not sure if he´s worth the points, he appears in round 2 the first time and i really wish he had 2 twinlinked heavy railguns. it really depends how many turns of apocalypse you play. my gaming group hardly passes the third round so he can shoot twice. and i also play a lot against (chaos)marines, orcs and eldar. can´t give you impressions versus other armies though.

feel free to ask questions, apologies if i messed up english somewhere :D hope this makes any sense !

PS: as i am a big fan of transformers, gundam and such i really like the design of the xv9 suits and the new broadside suits too. are they worth their money? i think not, material-wise, as all forgeworld models in my opinion. but they look great on the battlefield and put fear in your enemies hearts when they learn about the fusion cascade the first time after you send their precious terminator squad to hell :D
