Frost Blade & Red Fury

I recently came across this combo. After looking at the relevant rules, I think I need a consensus. When you kill a model with, say, 5 wounds with the frostblade, does the red fury now grant you 5 more attacks, or just 1, as only 1 wound is needed for the frostblade to kill it's victim regardless of the wounds on it's profile?

This is why the frostblade is great against ogres, as your vampire can destroy entire units by themselves.

Splendid. That's a positively horrific combo.

Yes, but leaves your VERY expensive vampire very illy protected.

4+armor at best with no ward, wouldnt be toooooo bad if you threw him in a unit with drakkenhoff tho.

Don't forget Dread Knight, that'd give the wielder a decent 2+ armour save. He'd still be way too vulnerable against other top-class contenders though..

Oh, it's all or nothing with this boy. I'd either have him in a unit with the Drakenhof banner, or a game where I could field 2 lords. He would have to rely on his initiative to kill his opponent before they could retaliate. Unless he met an assassin, or any high elf, his high initiative should make that happen in most games.

ahhh tottally forgot,ya your right. hmmmmm but blahhh the lack of ward really sucks, i guess you could throw him in a unit of blood knights or black knights with wight king BSB with drakkenhoff, but thats a reallllllly expensive unit haha.

and its kind of overkill, most of the time your 100 point sowrd wont be used, If i were to have mine mounted id rather have blood drinker.

give him the sword, put him on a hellsteed and go monster hunting for as many turns as you can keep him alive is one option i guess, though this means he has to be a secondary lord... I really want to take the frostblade, just for the sake of it but i have never had any game where i could see the benefits compared to its cost

I tend to reserve my Frostblading for when i play at enough points to afford two Lord chars. (i mean like 3.5K and up games) That way you can have your Frostblading Lord go hunting bug ugly things with lots of wounds, while having a more reasonably protected Lord as your General as you would in most lists.

I was considering a frost sword with my Vampire Lord but I've given him a zombie dragon as a mount can I still attack even if he's on a mount I'm using red fury and infinite hatred can anyone tell me a flaw as I'm still adjusting to the rules I'm taking on a chaos war mammoth so I figured a frost sword would be useful.:grave:

Hi Zarathos. You can indeed still attack with the vampire. It's a good combo, but you're vampire is probably not that well protected. One cannon shot and things could go very bad.

As had been stated, the problem is the lack of protection.

So I like to give the frostblade to my vampire on the fulcrum in Storm of Magic games. He gets a 3+ ward, he doesn't have to go monster hunting, they come to him! One lucky wound and BAM there goes your opponents 750 point Emperor Dragon!

I'm kinda rusty on the magic phase does casting a spell counts as a action also I am using avatar of death to give him a defence bonus and as far as I care the zombie dragon is expendable my strategy although suicidal is to kill the enemy general and then flee can I use my necromancer or Wight king as a general rather then my lord then begin to strike fear in to the heart of my enemies what is your thought on this strategy

Nope. A Vampire must lead a Vampire Counts army. The only way you could have an "expendable" lord would be to take TWO lords (because the Vampire with the highest LD must be the army general).

ref: pg 88 VC army book, and VC FAQ pg 1 telling us to ignore everything on pg 88 except for the para that forces a Vampire to lead the army.

There's a link to the GW VC FAQ in our own FEAR (FAQ) <- link in my sig.

It works the same way as Killing Blow, so yes you would generate 5 additional attacks.

I ran this setup on Wednesday at GW in Glasgow. The consensus between the staff that day was that it only generated 1 extra attack per unsaved wound. So wounding an ogre once, who has 4 wounds say, kills the ogre and generates 1 extra attack. It was disappointing but still effective.

Has anyone else had problems running this at in-store games?

Show them the FAQ, it clearly states that this works.
