Game of Thrones HBO Miniseries almost here

Game of Thrones is one of my favourite books. Dark, low fantasy, medieval with tons of characters, story development, and non-cliched story has made this an absolute hit with me.

They are filming a 10 part mini series for the first book, and there's been some good release footage.

Hoping this series draws as much attention as possible, as other HBO series that have been outstanding have been cancelled (Rome). So here's to hoping there's enough viewers, which will push enough ads and revenue to continue the books!

It stars Sean Bean aka Boromir, aka James Bond villain extraordinaire. It also has the ever hot Lena Headey (she sure is), who plays Sarah Connor in the Sarah Connor Chronicles, and the Queen in 300. And the upcoming star in the new Conan movie.

I was all pumped and itching to see the start of 'The Borgias' last night on Bravo... And the weather kicks up and screws with our satallite signal juuuuust long enough to screw us out of seeing anything.:swear:

I'm betting a small hurricane will hit about 5 minutes or so before the premier of Game of Thrones if I try and watch it... (which sucks because while I haven't read the books, the previews have me deeply intrigued!)

Well, the series is pretty good.

However, they're leaving a lot out, about motivations and the inner thoughts of characters which was key in making me enjoy the books. I have that background knowledge, so it's still good, but how are others finding this show?

I'd rate it a 7/10. Good, but not as good as HBO's Rome or Deadwood. Those were written for the screen.

I also find they focus too much on certain scenes, and not enough on the key elements (such as when Daenerys wanted to please her husband, it was important in the books to show her development of initiating and taking command to be treated as more of an equal, and his response of calling her name to show that it's working; it wasn't just a sex scene. There are lots of gradual build-ups and decisions to show her coming into her own and relying on herself that they're just missing.)

Read the books Vek. There's so much more to the characters, their inner thoughts and why they made the decisions they did. It's very in-depth and just awesome.

It's been quite a while since I read any of the books, so some of the "gaps" are still there. I am however enjoying it thus far.

Maybe I'll have to re-read some books.

I am loving the series personally, and if the books are even better I will definitely be picking them up.

The books explain so much more, and brings the characters to life. Each chapter is written from a particular character's point of view, so you can better understand how they think. For myself, the reasons behind a decision are as important as the decision itself.

The books are much better. If you plan to read them, I would recommend reading the books first before events are spoiled by the show

In that case, I won't overly hype them. Nothing worse than when material fails to live up to it's hype. They were my favourite, but then again, so is Justin Bieber. Might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Haha, don't blame the actor. If someone paid me well to act in a horrible movie, darn right I would. I honestly don't enjoy his music, but it's just music. Whatever people enjoy. The only thing I wish is that people would listen to a broader spectrum of music before deciding what they like. The miss likes back street boys; I don't give her a hard time about it (in fact, I got tickets to see them because I knew she'd love it). She doesn't love Iron Maiden, but she'd do the same thing if they were coming to town.

I think the focus of the series is a bit too much on sex and violence for the sake of it, just because it's HBO and they can get away with stuff like that it has to have nipples and beheadings in nearly every episode.
I think it is really not neccessary all of the time and sometimes the things you don't see have more of an impact.

I also agree that the relationship between Khal Drogo and Daenerys feels a bit wrong, at least in the beginning of the show.
The wedding night which was described very differently in the books is now plain rape.
It is better now in later episodes but Drogo still comes across as some sort of Klingon gladiator, which I did not really expect from reading the books.
I also do not like Daenerys all that much, well I like her because I really liked her in the books, but the actress is not what I expected.
Getting used to it, though.

Casting is great mostly, I really love the choices for Arya, Bran, Eddard, Joffrey, Jaime, and especially Tyrion.
Peter Dinklage was the actor I had in mind when reading the books ever since I saw The Station Agent and I am really happy he got a high profile role like this.

Any everyone who enjoys the show should definitely read the books and if you like fantasy at all you should read them even if you have not seen the show yet.

I've also been following the series with interest, and I do quite like it so far. It's definitely something to look forward to at the end of the week. The only thing to sting my eyes are the (in my opinion) needlessly revealing sex scenes, but then again I am a bit prudish.

Does it finish at episode 9? If so I've just finished it and I have to say it was fantastic!! Glad I didn't read the books as I might not have enjoyed it as much much like a lot of the fantastic people on this forum. Then again my friend read the books and still loved it so. Sex and violence is all right by me, love Daenerys, she's the only western girl I've fancied in ages scept for Jessica Alba. HBO WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YEAH!! Roll on the second season.:zombie:
