There's one episode (#10) left to air still. It should be on in North America this Sunday... I'm out of town this weekend... I REALLY hope that I have HBO at my hotel! Or at least a decent internet connection in case I need to stream/dl it.

Bring on the blades & blood, though. Graphical violence can make up for the hidden sex.

I have just got the books today, and so far so good! They are making an excellent ready, though I was quite surprised to find out the woman who becomes the Khaleesi was wed to Drogo when she was 13.
Now tell me, don't you all want to break prince Jofrey's face ?!!! This series is amazing. The casting, the scenery,the visual effects, everything is at a very high level that you don't usually see in many series. Sean Bean is perfect for this kind of roles. Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys Targaryen is so pretty. Also, she has a very nice pair of...eyes

I'm not saying that they should get rid of the sexual content, but I think it comes across better with some subtlety. That whole "veil of romance" thing, y'know? I like that.
I like things like sex, violence, etc... to not be hidden or overly dramatized/stylised. Which means no hiding things, no convenient shadows or sheets placed just so or camera angle at just the right place to hide things. It also means no super slow mo zoomed in shots of the involved organs or blood splattering everywhere while someone gets decapitated in slow motion (ahem... 300, i'm looking at you)

seriously though, this is an excellent series and i agree that maybe the sex scenes are a bit too graphic but hey this is set in a fantasy world our customs are not thiers. the best thing i like is the intrigue the suspicion and the fight scenes

Yeah, the sex scenes are playing a much larger role in the TV series than they are in the books. There's generally a reason for mentioning them in the books, to reveal more information.
If there was two other characters I'd like to smack after reading the first book, it was Catelyn and Sansa. Idiots!

I am loving the show, it is amazing! (literally just finished watching the next episode), I really want to buy the books soon, especially if they are in fact better then the tv series! :O

All the kids or young characters from the books have been aged up a bit for the series.
In the books Bran is 7 or so, Rickon is 3, Robb and Jon Snow are both 15-16, Arya is 9 iirc and Sansa 12. Daenerys is clearly older in the show as well.
I advise anyone who has read the books not to spoil anything as minor as it may be to the people here who have not, apparently most of them are just starting to read the series.

The ending of the episode was sooo good! The dragons were amazing and the graphics great!

Yeah, that's usually how it goes for me. I've never liked being left in suspense between episodes, so I prefer to get the future twists and turns out of the way and instead focus on the rest it has to offer.
No, I'm not into reading books.
Edit: I actually did the very same thing with the latest Silent Hill game that I played through. Before even buying the game I had looked through pretty much all of it. You'd think that ripping the suspense of the story and surprise moments out of a survival horror game would ruin it, but I'm really more interested in experiencing the visual and audial compositions.

The tale loses a lot of strenght with a 24-year old as the Kahleesi, imo. Although HBO sex scenes with a 13 year old isn't an option, that was the way the world worked in our own history. And even today, in some corners of our world. Children were important tools in the struggle for power.
The wedding night was also depicted as a rape in the HBO serie, while in the books it was more of a tender moment which let you understand why she wants to get to know Kahl Drogo.

That said, they have kept the series much closer to the books than any other book to TV series I have seen yet. The plus point of seeing the TV series first is that I now have very clear images of the characters in my head, and it is very easy to imagine as I read. I have to say as well, most of the actors do a fantastic job of portraying the characters, especially Tyrion AKA the Imp.
So, looking forward to the next instalment.

Yeah, although the Imp in the book is malformed; he's not exactly a midget. He's still decently strong in the books. And super, super ugly.
I heard that the next season was due for spring 2012, I hope that isn't true! I cant wait that long! I hope it is in september like Abbysal said.
HBO does tend to stick to a yearly schedule. True Blood is coming on next week, and will likely air a 12-13 episode schedule over the next 3-4 months. (Taking breaks for holidays, and such. I have yet for the life of me been able to figure out why US TV networks have to play reruns on a holiday weekend?) It will fall in the same time slot.
The wiki entry for Game of Thrones said that casting has started, but mentions absolutely nothing about filming... which makes a fall appearence extremely unlikely.
I'm pretty sure that Empire Boardwalk also aired in the same time slot... that would likely have a season 2 before Game of Thrones.
Hopefully they can pull something together quicker then 8-9 months from now, but I really doubt that we will be seeing anything before spring.
