Every gamer has superstitions or rituals that they think make them play better or dice to roll better. Whats yours?

Mine is every time I start a new army or character in a game, they get their own sets of dice, and I will never combine the two or roll them in play for another.

I suppose the only really superstitious thing I do is switch between different sets of dice when one gets 'cold.' Like If I fail a Leadership 10 test, the evil dice who flubbed it for me will likely not be used for the rest of the game. Likewise, if I'm rolling particularly poorly with some dice in close combat, I might swap two of them to be my "Leadership test dice." It's always nice having some chronic low-rollers relegated to that position. xD

If I want to roll high I pick up dice that rolled lower than four last time I rolled them. When I need low I pick "old" fives and sixes.
With Vampire and Mage I have a lucky set of D10's, same with other dice sets for D&D and Dark Heresy. If anybody else touches them I hold them tightly in my left hand for a full five minutes.
I also never say out loud what I need to roll or would like to get.

It's just stupid but for some reason it works.

I like to have mad passionate sex before dice rolling - I am then generally happy whatever the result xd

On a serious note, whilst it has been a while since I played I used to blow on them in my hand for good luck....not sure why o.o

I do this and kick myself for it every time. Superstitious claptrap.

Most of the locals also have the "don't judge the roll" superstition. Just say what you need and roll it. Don't say "anything but ones", don't say "on average, half" or anything like that.

Fortunately for everyone who has to play me, the Bohemian Dice Hex has been retired due to lack of space at tournaments...

There are a few people who follow the quarantining poor dice strategy at my store, however 'dice cursing' is rampant, doing everything we can to damage the result of another person's dice roll through applying all the bad superstition to someone else's rolls, most common of which is walking past someone who is about to roll and saying "all ones" or something similar :P

I don't call the Imperial guard weapon that fires a rocket in either frag or krak variety by its official name, because it contains a word within it that relates to not hitting the target.

He he. Silly that, isn't it? Calling them *IG players do not read * missiles! (highlight to see)

Kinda why I play Assaultcrons.

As for my own dice-superstitions, never say "anything but a one" and try not to rely too much on a single die roll in my strategy.

Ooooh, that's another one.

NEVER call it the Misfire die.

It can hear you.

Weather its a superstition or just bad form, I used to play 40k with a guy back in 2nd edition that would curse profusely, get red in the face, and throw the offending die.

I used to play him just to get him to throw dice :)

Needless to say those dice found new homes in my "General Use" dice bag.

From experience in my WFO SoM games, I have learned something- if I roll for magical flux, I always roll a hit on the scatter dice. So I have now taken up the policy of always saying "I am rolling for magical flux" when I fire with war machines/template weapons.

I used to do that. And models. I did throw away a scratchbuilt Blood Bowl team once. I was... quite angry, when I was younger.

I use to sacrifice goats, and bathe the dice in their blood for luck. Eventually all the goats became the most expensive part of the hobby, so now I just roll them by holding them between my palms, and sliding one hand forward, the other back, so the dice spin and bounce as much as possible. I reckon the more my dice bounce, the better they roll.

What special dice do you guys have? I have the space hulk bone dice and the storm of magic dice that I am dying to try out- hopefully they will roll really well.

I still have my seventh edition Gamer's Bag dice. I tend to save them for characters' attacks, spellcasting rolls and so on and so forth. No particular reason (they don't roll higher or anything), they just look more... epic.

Im going to be reserving my magic dice for the magic phase only, with a few exceptions. The lore of life (green dice) will be used to differentiate the arachnarocks venom surge.

first off i have a separate set of dice for character attacks vs regular infantry/monster attacks, and second... the insane part, i feel like i need to do sound effects when i play otherwise i'm going to roll low the next round, so whenever a group of empire swordsmen get screamed at the whole store knows. it does have its plus sides, its hard for my opponents to make logical choices when they are laughing from my last Skink vs Hydra sound effects

Probably just the cursed/blessed one die armour save. no matter if it's a 2+ or a 6+ it will defy the odds.
One of many examples is with a chaos terminator kill team game when it took a swarm of power weapons and 3 rounds of close combat to kill one terminator xD. but the thing was that he was killed when one wound was made that required the 2+ save:(
