Greetings good TVCers This is... you guessed it, another shameless plug so it can be on the current page!
have you ever felt that TVC was not enough to satisfy your roleplaying desires?
perhaps you want to kill a few vampires instead of merely partying with them all the time?
maybe you are fine with vampires and fine with TVC, in which case you probably won't be all that interested in what I'm about to offer.

Your friendly mass of vines, lynks is here to inform you that there is now a new roleplay in the works, "The Chains of Gabriella". The players will be taking up the role of a band of mercenaries, sent on a mission to put an end to the machinations of a sinister vampire (unlike them puny TVC ones who are just out to make the world an undeader place)

If TVC is the only roleplay you are currently in, or even if it isn't Me and Lucifer, who will help with the running of it, implore you to come and check it out. The sign up thread which details everything you need to know can be found HERE. It's guaranteed to be a good time and will provide something else for y'all to turn to when TVC is in it's slow spots.

I hope to see your characters over in the signup thread soon

Slightly late to the whole "slow down" party, but here's me agreeing anyway! The Abomination was supposed to be a very powerful enemy that took us a long time to deal with, hence its fearsome tabletop reputation. Now that the Skaven are controlled by more organised commanders, it is no longer easy. Almost without exception, we've been killing Skaven left right and centre without thought. We're vampires (or confused Bret knights!), yes, but not gods.

If you actually post how you beat each individual enemy, then it should slow to the correct rate. So instead of killing X number in one sentence, kill one enemy in a few sentences. Now that they are led effectively, they are more challenging. Stormvermin are powerful enemies, Warpstone Artillery is causing mass-havoc, magic is running wild, you're severely outnumbered. This battle has (or rather, should have) been going on for a long time now, so you may even start to tire.

I originally never intended to bring Skaven into this battle, but we beat the Empire forces so darn quickly that I was forced. I don't mean to act as some kind of saint (I'm as guilty as everyone else), but please, let's all take a deep breath, and slow down. Enemies are stronger, tougher, better-led, more numerous, and there's all sorts happening in the background besides.

For example:

Good: Steve Bobson roared as he ran into combat at the approaching horde, hefting his greatsword above his head. The first rat-thing flew into him screeching, scratching at steve's armour with ferocity beyond natural. Steve grunted as he prized the thing off him, and beat it with the pummel of his sword. As it fell to the ground he impaled it with his greatsword before it could do any more. By now he was surrounded though, and he swung his sword round to keep skaven from approaching, one foolhardy rat deflected his sword and lept forwards. Steve just managed to bring his weapon round to deflect a blow to his head, and continued his momentum to swipe at the creature's mid section. It shrieked and jumped, saving all but its tail, which just seemed to anger it more, Steve wasn't done yet, and the sword came whistling down vertically, and although the skaven moved to block, the momentum was so great that it broke its arms, dropping its weapon in agony. Steve wasted no time in impaling it through the head, and turned to the rest of the horde. He shouted in his thick accent, taunting them.

"You know what you and Jane Austen have in common? You're BOTH BLOODY DEAD WOMEN!!!"

Bad: Larson Bobson swung his sword around in huge arcs, cutting down two or three people each swing, the destruction was beyond imagination, decapitated bodies lay everywhere and thee was a struggle to even reach Larson due to the pile of bodies. Larson roared at the top of his lungs, he was an unchallenged victor here. He chuckled as another group of skaven rose over the crest of the hill, only to meet their bloody end as Larson's sword cleaved through them.

He walked to the top of the hill, and saw a massive army approaching. Yelling at the top of his voice, he shouted

"This is going to be a real piece of Piss, you fruit shop owners!"

Can we kind of.... put the battle on hold? I need to talk to someone, preferably DoN maybe about bringing my character in as reinforcements to the skaven force as a way to introduce him to the roleplay..... but that will be hard if the skaven get wiped out.

Also..... I heard someone killed 5 doomwheels.... and then defeated a grey seer single handedly. A full power, screaming bell riding grey seer. So 5 of the most potent war machines skavendom ever made and a wizard that can extinguish most mortal wizards with ease....

Also, skaven are not that weak, your average vampire should maybe be able to handle a unit of 25 clanrats, stormvermin if he is a good fighter (like a blood dragon) I don't imagine anyone should be mowing through too many skaven at once unless they are.... well Ghoulclaw, or a powerful caster, or on a dragon.

Edit: not to mention that if they have 5 doomwheels (5!) then they should have around 15ish warp lightning cannons, a host of warpfire throwers, jezzails, etc, all of which can be a real problem even for vampires.

Dude Bobson is so OP, NERF, NERF.

I know I've been harping on abit but just want to agree with Darvy and Alastor here, just so we can slow down.

Well this whole Skaven thing was because DoN and such where too busy at the moment and such but if you really need a GM I'll happily support slowing the RP way way down until you can talk to DoN or Simon.

The Bell was a joint effort, Mort dueled the Grey Seer and Dieter used a device belonging to Mort to take down the Bell and would have died from the resultant explosion if not for the Necromancer.
Who took out the doomwheels? I know it happened but can't find it (although I find it difficult to read single long paragraphs on a computer screen at times).

I don't know about everyone else but as I said Dieter is mostly fighting Skavenslaves with the odd stormvermin and I think he took out a Jezzail (that got too close to the melee) at one point.

But I agree the artillery and doomwheels (which I know very little abou tbh) should be causing us more trouble.

Nekhlior's shielding those near him from the artillery but such a defense won't last forever.

If we put the battle on hold, I'm worried that everyone will start to drift away over the Christmas season. And I wouldn't pin your hopes on hearing from DoN any time soon, he appears to have disappeared off the radar. Perhaps run it by either myself or GoW, we are trying to act as care takers until Simon or DoN manage to muster some time for us  We don't want to see any body left on the side lines.

I guess its just a busy time of year for everyone, especially folk with family. But we should all try to pitch in to make this work as well as we can. The last TVC ran really well with minimal control, so I don't see any reason why this one can't be the same.

As for the rushing through enemies too quickly, I think its something we have all be guilty of at some point. Luc's example of what makes up a good or bad post is really helpful guide, and I'm sure there are loads of other quick guides to read online that can help us all make this battle (and the whole role play) as cool as possible.

Sorry if it seems I'm taking over or being too dominant, but I thought it was best to have some one trying to guide the plot and keep everyone having fun in a constructive way

EDIT: Ninja'd by GoW, curse you.

Right-o, time to edit my doomwheel post. Get, it was Morty and Dieter who took out the doomwheels. And I'll stop killing skaven at the speed of light. Also, NOBODY KILL THE VERMIND LORD MAGE YET. I want to let him show the world a few SIGNIFICANT surprises (which I've planned already) before he's taken out, and he is the skaven general and so probably needs to die in the closing stages of the battle.

EDIT: I'm really busy, but might actually be able to make a new post today. xD

Oh right! xD I didn't realise Dieter had done anything like that!

I was under the belief that the Skaven Generals are the characters Archy and Sanai will be playing?
Although there could be multiple Skaven leaders I guess.

Also a note on Nekhlior's defensive barrier: It'll pretty much stop all magical and ranged attacks but Skaven can walk right through it.
Also Nekhlior's attention is REALLY taken up doing this alone (since the winds are nuts right now and the barrages constant) so he won't even notice if say an assassin sneaks up on him!

Dieter's just standing next to Peter being all Blood Dragon..y...ish :clown:

Right, I've edited the post, and may have time to post later tonight. My prospects seem grim, though. :( Another of Morty's mad plans is coming up in the next post, and it's how to deal with the particularly-large-vermin-lord sized monster standing on the platform.

Well, Dread, as long as it doesn't do it quickly in an insta-win fashion ... And, actually, I think it would be character building for some of our plans to fail once in a while ...

Oh yeah, the plan will take a long time and it will fail because of the surprise I'll unleash (via the vermin lord seer) on the council. But it will seem to work at first.

With regards to the HPA, I did not have my character single-handedly take it out in one post. I merely meant that Kenshiro was beginning to do real damage to it.

That said, I definitely don't mind a slowdown. I may have bitten off a bit more than I can chew in joining a story writing competition on another forum, so any extra time I can get to finish it before the deadline this weekend would be nice.

Dread King, check my OOC post about how I'm going to combat the Skaven warlord.

In brief it'll require most of the mages and three posts (or more if you like) to combat and finish him off. If there's some spells he is going to cast, PM me and I'll incorporate them into my posts/

Everyone, we should deal with the worm Harland mentioned and the other stuff before moving onto the big cheese mage, and everyone who doesn't post at DoN-speed should be able to fit a post in about fighting the mage, when we get to fighting the mage, before the mage is killed. Otherwise, the battle will be over in a few real life days. Also, when the mage is finally killed (hopefully not too soon!), do not completely destroy his body - the battle doesn't end with his "death."

Harland?! Where?

*Looks behind him*

Just for confirmation, the worm is a large mechanical monstrosity covered in rat flesh with huge cannons projecting from beneath it. It is piloted by the general, an engineer called Skner-skner. The mages are up to you as to difficulty etc

EDIT: Because I'm not controlling the mages...
