I'm sort of in a terrain-making period right now, and on that occasion I decided to try and make a haunted wood. So what I did was to get some trees at a hobby railroad store which sells trees in all shapes and colors. These was quite nice since they come in packages of 28 trees, and flatpacked. Then you bend them out to your choosing and apply some flocky stuff to make the leaves. I decided to make a dead forest, so no leaves on my trees. Then I dug up my old wood elves sprues which still got lots and lots of unused pieces on them. I found that the dryad sprues is a goldmine when making undead woods. I greenstuffed some of the sprues on the trees, and here's the result:

Haunted woods are alive - of course

Reinforcements hanging ready in the trees

I tried to get the base to look sort of dead as well with hardly any grass growing on it. However we're playing on a fullcovered grass mat, so the edges had to be grass to make it fade correctly.

Also the trees are detachable so you can easily reposition them to make room for regiments marching through.

Get the leaves scattered around on the ground? Think of how the woods looked in the film The Brothers Grimm.

Yes, I have to agree with the number of trees, and this could probably be increased.

As for the bushes & grass I think I'll leave that out since I'd like the woods to be as dead as possible. This is the reason there's only grass at the edges, and hardly anything in the middle. Dead leaves however would probably be great. Haven't seen the Brothers Grimm so can't say I know what you're reffering to, but my main concern with dead leaves, is that I don't know how to make it. I might perhaps put in some autumn undergrowth like I did on in my wood elves - below.

So weekend means I got lots of time to spare, so yesterday I put together another forest. This time I did a fall forest for my autumn-themed wood elves. It's slightly more happy with wood elf waystones and owls. I guess I could make the wood elf forest come alive with the sprues of dryads, since wood elf woods are anything but nice to trespassers, but I figured that if any of the trees actually were alive and trying to harm you, they are allready placed on the field of battle as dryads, treekins or treemen. So this time, I just let the woods be woods, and here's who this turned out:

Wood elves apperently live here

As do some wildlife

hahaha that owl is perfect
just seems so creepy yet still like a creature affiliated with the wood elves
its the eyes that get it for me, other than that its a great set of trees, but ARION is right, it needs more trees because the trees look so thin without their leaves that it doesnt look like they would block line of sight for a unit of archers or a cannon
