Well, drew this list up last night, to represent the Waldenhof army, defending the northern areas of Sylvania (as per my fluff). Went with something new (for me) in massive units designed to take a charge, and never die (lol). Characters came out a bit more expensive than I wanted, as did the Core choices, but it seems pretty solid.
Deployment with sit with the Grave Guard in the centre, flanked by the two skeleton units, with their flanks guarded by corpse cart/coach/varghulf. Not sure on the wolves just yet, but always wanted to use them - maybe a deterrent?
Anyway, the list:
Characters
Viktor von Carstein, Lord of Waldenhof
Vampire Lord on Nightmare
Extra Level, Dark Acolyte, Walking Death, Lord of the Dead, Infinate Hatred, Sword of Might, Sceptre de Noirot, Walachs Bloody Hauberk
455pts.
Lady Sophia sur Lac von Carstein, Daughter-in-Darkness of Viktor.
Vampire, Dark Acolyte, Lord of the Dead, Sword of Might, Nightshroud, Talisman of Protection
195pts
Erik von Carstein, Son-in-Darkness of Viktor.
Vampire, Dark Acolyte, Lord of the Dead, Flayed Hauberk, Sword of Might
185pts
Kahn, Captain of the Waldenhof Guard
Wight King, Battle Standard, Waldenhof (as Drackenhof) Standard
225pts
Core
35 Skeleton Warriors, Spears, Full Command, War Banner
360pts
35 Skeleton Warriors, Spears, Full Command, War Banner
360pts
6 Dire Wolves
Doom Wolf
58
Corpse Cart
Balefire
100pts
Special
The Waldenhof Guard
19 Grave Guard, Full Command, Great Weapons, Screaming Banner
317pts
Waldenhof Templars
9 Black Knights, Full Command, Barding, Banner of the Barrows
337pts
Rare
Vargulf
Edited, just in case
Black Coach
Edited, just in case
Total: 2967pts
Character Total: 1060pts
Core Total: 878pts
Special Total: 654pts
Rare Total: 375pts
This list gives 10 power dice a turn, and six dispel. Assuming optimum cast each turn, and rolling a 6, I can potentially increase the size of the skeletons by 60 a turn.
Plan is to take the hits, as enemy shooting, magic etc won't matter 35 strong units, and then ressurect any I need to, before smashing into combat with them.
There will be a Vamp in each Skeleton unit, unless I put Sophia in the Grave Guard, and the BSB sill sit in the middle of the GG unit as well. Vampire Lord and cavalry on one side, with the coach on the other. Corpse Cart possible between a big unit.
Varghulf might be given free reign to engage war machines, etc.
As for additional models, I'm not a fan of ghouls, as its designed like an official State army, much like the empire, rather than a horde of all kinds. Same goes for Necromancers.
So, are my big dead units feasable as an effective army? Will they be useful, or am I better making them smaller and taking some other harder units?
I am facing a 3k High Elf army on monday, not too worried about them ASF'ing, as a, I can do it with some of mine, and b, who cares if half a dozen skeletons die when I can potentially raise 60 a turn, increasing beyond the 35 starting number?
Thanks in advance
