I really like running 1000 pts lists as well, however I'm training for the upcoming tournaments in the fall and all of them are 2k. There is one issue I think with 1k lists and that is that any form of recursion is really strong, so summoning and resurrection really gets brutal in small games. When I play 1k with my maggotkin I am basically playing 1500 pts vs 1000 pts. That difference is more balanced when you play at 2k. I do prefer the small games because they are faster and don't involve as many dice rolls. :)

By the way I like your list! Let us know how it goes. Facing a shooting army will be really tough for your Vampire Lords I think.

I like 1000 pts lists because you must be careful and every choice is important.
However, there are two downsides to it:
- when you lose a key unit you often lose the battle, while at 2000 pts you have more room to recover,
- less units, same battlefield size. Sometime to win you just need movement, and slower armies simply don't have enough bodies to control the board

That first one is certainly a fair comment for AoS, and I guess is part of why AoS isn't really my game. I think small characters/units should be the thing, and basically everything costing more than 200pts should just be dumped out of the army books.

The second one, I always see "same table, fewer models" as a huge bonus, as it gives you space to manouver, and throws more importance on speed and mobility. In my view, once you load 2000pts of models onto each side of the table, you most often end up in an "I can't avoid you so I have to fight you" situation, whereas I would always rather win without reaching combat if possible!
