heya. due to financial constraints, im having to use the empire greatswords to represent my gravegaurd.

thing is im not exactly sure of a paint scheme at the moment, there no bone to be done, so im thinking fluff them into a low level vampire bodygaurd with magic weapons, that counts as gg. im not sure what colour scheme i should go for though.

ive got half a mind to try the same lacquered armour style as ive used for konrad (will put a picture up eventually) but im not sure itll look much good with greatswords to be honest, because their not the spikiest of soldiers, and lacquering look better with the spiky and the mean (chaos, dark elves and konrad).

any advice is more than welcome :)

RE: greatswords/grave gaurd problem...

and also, could someone tell me what power camera they are using? the pictures here are all considerably higher quality than my camera can even hope to acheive. (its 4 megapixel, so not exactly top of the range, but it does for most things usually)

RE: greatswords/grave gaurd problem...

I use this Nikon Camera
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0108/01082302nikoncoolpix885.asp

It is only 3 megapixel. Yours is probably better. The key to digital pictures is, strong lighting, tripod and a camera with Macro facility and White Balance functions. I have had this one for almost 6 years now, current price on it seem to be about the same as GW charge for a box of skeletons.

As for your GraveGuard; the Greatsword figures are wonderful models. I would suggest painting them in Zombie flesh colours and add some rips/tears to the Empire Style clothing and cut off the Sigmarite images and dedications. Paint the outer parts of the clothing Black, with the inner parts whatever colour you are using for the army.

RE: greatswords/grave gaurd problem...

Greenstuff and some conversion work can make your models look old, wartorn, and rotting. A few head swaps would help too.

RE: greatswords/grave gaurd problem...

ty for the advice, ill try and find a few spares to try it out on before going for teh unit proper.

and it looks like im gonna have to practive a lot with the camera hehe.

RE: greatswords/grave gaurd problem...

with any luck ill be upgrading my generals appearence soon, with this vampire: http://www.freewebs.com/8thgrandcompany/Kraven.JPG

thing is, ive half a mind to try and make hisleft hand a big nifty claw like my avatar has. im thinking there may be a way to wangle it with a CSM or SM termie-librarian hand....which would give it the wierd pseudo armour effect, but im worried about the difference in the proportions of the models-marines of any description are unnaturally large hehe. if anyone has another possible place to get a claw-ish left hand from, that would look to out of place on a vampire general, could you give me a hint? :)

I love that Vampire figure, I use him as a Carstein Thrall in my collection.

His left hand is cast as part of the cloak so will take some careful cutting and filing to remove. I pulled out a few bits and think the Space Marine hands will be considerably too large for what you want. I would say your best bet will be a skeleton figures hand if you can find one not curled into a fist.

thanks for the advice, if i can get hold of the halberd guy ill try the claw thing, and probably use the leftover vamp in a black coach conversion: a wakey wakey rise and shine kinda motif XD
