Hate the old ghouls?

Then good news. GW apparently have released a whole new boxed set.

By mistake they written Lord of The Rings Goblin Warriors on the front though.

I'd be wary... if you like the models that's great but LotR has a smaller model scale and goblins themselves are quite small. they might seem a little underwhelming when compared to other units in your army.

If you have a Games workshop store near you I'd recommend seeing them in person before purchasing them, unless you are getting some for the new game anyway

You can't be serious that you like those more than our current ghouls?

I don't know really.

I find the current ghouls to be well-sculpted but the style is sooo horrible. For the very same reason I can't bring myself to use crypt horrors.

These little chaps most of all remind me of misshapen vargheists which is much more in line with my army.

Now my personal opinion and experience tells me ghouls is our worst core, but till now it has been the models that been the reason why I wouldn't dream of fielding them.

A different-from-GW paintjob and assuming they aren't too much out of scale.... yes I may get these

The standard GW ghouls are hard to rank up, and once you do they have their faces crammed up the buts of the models in front of them human centipede style. I like them well enough individually, but once you put them in a unit... no.

Even in their squiddly hobbit scale, I'd have a hard time deciding between them, if I didn't have 40 ghouls already. If they were more orc or human scaled I'd probably dump my existing unit and just get them instead.

Well, the only ghoul Games Workshop makes that I like is the Strigoi Ghoul King you get with the Zombie Dragon/Terrorgheist model. I actually will be using one with wings from a Mage Knight model as a vargheist, because I want to cram as many actual vampires (appearance wise) into my army as possible.

While I'm so used to the Rankin and Bass goblins for the Hobbit that these new ones for the film weird me out, I do think they might work better ghoul wise, even though I like the models even less aesthetically speaking.

This doesn't really change anything for me, as I was going to use the Empire Free Company painted as pale-skinned newly born vampires in place of the ghoul models anyway.

I saw them and went oh god what have they done. But now thinking about it they make perfect ghouls and are about half the cost. Almost tempting if i hadn't already bought so many zombies.

I think the goblin king looks pretty cool as a gross ghoul king or crypt horror. Looks like you can only get him if you buy the big box set though?

Seems to be that way, but at least he isn't the limited model from it

Can somebody tell me why GW doesn't want people to play their games? I'm fighting tooth and nail to get a couple of friends to pick up warhammer, and these geniuses at gw seem to fight against me every inch. Why do you make a product for your games too expensive to buy? Who do they think is playing? Gods, sorry. /rant

What we consumers need is another game that's also a horde based one (not skirmish like Warmahordes) that has what GW's games have. People may complain but we play/collect their games regardless of the cost because they have things like player base, accessibility, decent sculpts and a strong rule set which they update. They just don't have much competition in what they do. Obviously, I'm not saying there aren't games out there that don't have these things but they don't have the same er customer penetration.

As for the ghouls I like the sculpts but not the whole nose up butt of the rank ahead of them.

"Aaaaugh, my necromantically enhanced senses!!!!"

Hehe Exactly. There's something not that intimidating about ghoul butt-munchers. And I doubt eating flesh dead or otherwise equals a happy digestive tract.
