RE: Hardt saying hello! + army pics (update 7 jan)

Hello again fellow vampires!

I've not been painting much because I've been training and preparing for joining the army and doing military service the 19th January. I didn't want to leave you all empty however so summoning some extra power I finnished my contribution for the painting contest. She's a real hottie! My pale wife; Julie von Carstein! Be sure to vote for her in the painting competition!

Comments are very welcome!

Also could some moderator please move this thread to painting logs as that's what this topic has evolved to.

RE: Hardt von Carsteins army (update 18 Jan)

Nice model you have there. Not a particular fan of the colours, but that's a matter of taste so irrelevant. The actual painting itself though is very good. You have achieved a very nice TT standard. Nice work. :)

Cheers, Wolfie

RE: Hardt von Carsteins army (update 18 Jan)

I love the colors! I lack s far in highlights and contrast but I find yours inspiring!

RE: Hardt von Carsteins army (update 18 Jan)

Those are some interesting colours that you've used on that model, Hardt. I've never really liked the miniature itself but now that I've seen several impressive paintjobs with it here on this site I'm almost beginning to have a change of heart, heheh.

RE: Hardt von Carsteins army (update 18 Jan)

really beautiful army man. i love how you got the colors to remain vibrant without making the minis look cartoony. i particularly enjoy your heroes and grave guard. keep up the great work man!

have a pint of innocent's blood on me!

RE: Hardt von Carsteins army (update 4 june!)

Hello fellow vampires!

Hope nobody mind I use a little thread necromany here hehe. Anyway I just had my first week of from the army (doing military service atm) and after a 4 and half month long break I decided to pick up the brush and sharpen my fangs and get back to painting! I hope that some of you still remember me and for the rest you'll have a chance now.

I here present to you my latest creations: A Zombie regiement and a Varghulf! Both units went surprisingly fast to paint but I still am happy with the result. Having found some motivation I hope to finnish my wight king BSB soon as well.

on with the models!

Vargulf:

Hey, your army is nice :D green & purple aren't supposed to look good together but you combine them so well, they really suit the terror theme of Undead armies, slightly surreal & very vivid compared to the grave-earth & bone colours. I'm looking at the Zombies as I type this & it really shows on them, obviously green is not a realistic 'dead flesh' tone but in terms of shock-horror it works splendidly, in particular because it brings out the teeth, nobody wants to get a Zombie hickey.

There is one thing though, the blood is a very bright red which gives it a slightly cartoonish feel, I'd use a much deeper red, not only because it is more realistic (not necessarily a prerequisite) but also because it does not contrast so sharply with the green, if it were more purple-red (not pure purple because that would get lost with the other dark purples) & darker it would be more sinister, less b-movie.

Regarding the necromancer in the first post though, I love that model! I entered it for Golden Daemon when I was 14 or 15 (didn't get anywhere though, I wasn't *that* good) & Morley himself was recieving the entries, I'll never forget the proud look on his face when he was studying my paint job, makes me smile even now it does. Aaah! I had the idiocy to repaint & convert it later though, they were't my best conversions. I might get another one of him & do it again. I really like the way you did the model, the glowing green stones are particularly well executed.

Great job too. I understand the Army thing. I know that as I get closer to deployment I won't have much time to do the painting.

I personally like the scary lady you have at the top. I don't think I would want her around for long!

That blue on the Varghulf works really well.........I may even think of repainting mine xd

Super models and I look forward to seeing more. Also make sure you keep your eyes out as next Golden Bat Competition is coming up.

thanks all! These forums make me happy:vampire2:

just bought some more grave guard and some wraiths today. Grave guards are my favourite unit so I decided I wanted some more of them and wraiths to add some contrast to the army. Need to figure out how to paint etherals though. Most likely I'll paint them in some glowing green colour. Else black if I can't. However I'm returning to the army soon so next update will likely be sometime in 2 weeks.

Awesome stuff! The paintjob is really good, though I agree with Ophidicus about the blood effects. What I usually do for blood is black ink mixed with red ink, then red ink over that (finished off with gloss varnish) - I find it a nice way to get the gory point across :konrad:
You might wanna try it out, though you are a better painter than I am, more realistic blood would seriously finish them off (no pun intended).
As for Ethereals, I'm sure MasterSpark can give you a hint or two about 'em :)

Great job though :D

Greetz :clown:

wow i oppened the first page of this thread and marvelled at the psychadelic colour schemes and then it goes on all the way through!

its really inspirational too push the value of my paint box

BUMP!

Hello fellow vampires. After almost five years I am back!

I should probably reintroduce myself since there likely are a lot new faces here since last. I have collected Warhammer for many years now but I have not always been very focused and I also have taken a few long breaks. I used to run this little painting blog a few years back but after completing military service and entering university I took a long break from painting.
One day after visiting my mother recently I entered my old room where I used to live a few years ago. This day something was different however as I decided to have a look at my old vampire counts army that still was on display on a dusty bookshelf. After looking at them I felt nostalgic and decided to get back into Warhammer once again!
Also I found two boxes of skeleton warriors that I never finished painting! Today I therefore present to you 20 skeleton warriors fresh from the graveyard!

Hey there, welcome back!

You did some great freehand work on the banner and the wooden shields look great.
I'm a fan of purple and your troops look very vibrant and "alive."

Glad you like them!

At the moment most of the minis are not at my place so I have to bring them home to retake the photographs (no backups sadly). I will probably do this in a few days so you can take a look at them once more. I will update the blog again once I have done this.

Welcome back! Although it seems I'm one of them new faces, so nice to meet you :)

Nicely painted skeletons too. You got really nice colours going on. Any chance of seeing your older work? The pictures earlier in the plog are apparently broken =/

Here are some reposting of my minis since the pics dissapeared. Missing only the bone giant, varghulf and corpse cart.
