Hey everyone,

It's been a while since I've written here! It's been a massive incentive for me to hear back from people who've enjoyed my Children of Maat series, especially so to see it featured in the site's own e-zine. And while I have not been continuing this series, in light (or dark) of finishing university and finally graduating over the summer, I have not been idle...

It is therefore with much pride and not a little anxiety (and, of course, DoN's blessing) that I am posting a link here to my first attempt at a novel-length horror story, Hell's Water. The manuscript is available for all to freely peruse online at http://www.authonomy.com/books/28445/hell-s-water/ and I thought it very fitting that I linked the members of Carpe Noctem to it, considering how much time I've spent and pleasure I've had writing fiction for here.

I would love if anyone could read a chapter or two and drop a comment on the book's page with their thoughts, especially constructive ones. And if you like it enough, I'd be even more happy for you to 'back' the book and give it a star rating on there. The support of Carpe Noctem's vampiric book-worms (leeches? :konrad: ) would be much appreciated.

Anyway, many thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing back from you and hopefully getting some ratings!

You're back!

Kind of. At least with another set of your superb writing. :) I'll definitely read it at my own leisure, quite possibly sending it to my work computer for perusal during slow shifts. :)

Welcome, and thank you!

Thanks Onikaigo! You don't even have to read much, I'd just love a rating on there and to hear any thoughts / constructive criticism the esteemed members of this forum have!

And DoN...I don't think there is a way to get it in a PDF; I am not a very technical person when it comes to computers, unfortunately. If I find out how I will let you know! Many thanks for allowed me to post this here and I hope to hear back from some of you on authonomy!

I've only read the prologue and the first chapter so far, but I am already very impressed. Just how can one single guy capture and convey so much through simple writing?

I can't say for sure when I'll have read through it, but I can say that it's looking good thus far.

Just thought you should all be amongst the first to know...

...I am self-publishing my debut novel, Hell's Water, through a print-on-demand service in January 2011!

I am extremely excited by the prospect of my writing being commercially available, for people to read and critique and judge for themselves! Even if only one person actually enjoys the read, I will feel like I have accomplished something, a first step towards something better.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone on here for being so supportive towards The Children of Maat; I'm not sure I would ever have got so involved and passionate towards my writing had it not been for the feedback I received from the community here.

Anyway, the book will be available online in a week or two and it will be £7.99, should anyone here want to own a copy for themselves (I will post the link here when it's up). Hell's Water is horror set in Southampton, in and around the university campus. Alcohol and demonic possession are the main themes, explored through a tight-knit group of third-year students as they struggle towards graduation.

Thank you so much, everyone,

TPL / Thomas James Brown

You should feel proud indeed for having written stuff such as this. I bet that having it go commercial must be an amazing boost to your confidence in this, and rightly so. I've taken up reading on it again and the majority of the comments you're getting on the site are accurate - it is good stuff.

I wish you all the luck with this.

Edit: I don't know about you guys, but whenever I've read professional stuff before I haven't ever considered that it's actually the work of a regular person like the rest of us. Commercial things have always felt like an automated affair to me, things that popped out of nowhere and simply are. But your novel has enlightened me to this, TPL - it's something that has grown from beneath the writing fingers of an ordinary fellow, yet still so.. correct.

Keep on doing your thing, TPL. You certainly have it in you. :)

Congrats TPL!

Please make sure you PM me when this happens as I will post an announcement, I am very happy and proud that one of our member's has done this - plus I want to buy a copy for myself.......if I ask nicely can I have an autographed copy?

Cheers for the comments MasterSpark, you're right - it really is a very exciting time for me at the moment. I will keep on writing, don't worry! And DoN - will definitely drop you a PM when the book becomes available, the community here will be amongst the first to know about it when it does :) An announcement would be very much appreciated and more than I could have hoped for!

Many thanks again everyone,

TPL

Edit:

PS. DoN...As you're UK-based, I'm sure an autographed copy could be arranged, if you were being serious!
