Hihihi! I'm stressing myself to push as fast as possible the painting so we can start the Sigmar's Blood campaign. I did a couple of test but I'm not really satisfied with the result.
If anybody can help would be really kind. Also you get a like,a cotton candy,a zombie energy bar and a COOKIE!

I need an hand on how to paint
Wood
Stone
Rust (iron, the kind of orange rust)
The effect needed is the basic one for spear ,scenery and shields. But I also got a CC to paint so would be nice have some quick tips.
Thanks!

Quick and dirty rust method is to base with bright metal, staple with dark brown then wash with mud wash.
mithril -> vermin brown -> devlan.

I do quick wood with washes to.
Base with deheb stone -> devlan -> devlan again.

I use two kinds of gray from Vallejo? to do quick stone effect, one is called london gray.

For grey stone I usually go for the old codex grey (or any dark grey) over a black undercoat and then drybrushed with fortress grey (or any lighter grey). On some models with a lot of stone and rock I ended up starting with 50:50 codex grey + black and drybrushing up to fortress grey and then giving the edges a highlight with 50:50 fortress grey + white.

For rust I use the old chestnut ink roughly stippled with an old brush, but it's not ideal.

I tend to rely on the texture of the model underneath to make a difference between wood and leather - wood often has a lot of lines that you can drybrush over while leather is smoother. For wood I often go for something like rhinox hide -> 50:50 rhinox hide + snakebite leather (or another lightish brown tint like Vermin Brown / Balor Brown, depends on how red or yellow you want the wood) and then a drybrush of snakebite leather (or whichever colour you used in the stage before). Depending a bit on how detailed I want it I use more layers or less. For leather on my Dark Elves I tend to use snakebite leather highlighted with 50:50 snakebite + balor brown and then edged with pure balor brown, and on characters I pick out the utmost highlights with bubonic brown.

I generally wash after the basecoat stage to pick out the details with agrax earthshade and then start highlighting.

Hi Emicarnia,
I wrote two tutorials on how to paint rust, link is in my signature if you are interested :)

I personally have both Ryza Rust and Typhus corrosion.

Typhus corrosion can be used by itself, as it is kind of texture provider and wash in one bottle - it adds tiny pieces to the model and also washes it with it's dirty color. Result is very realistic. Actually, it is the best color of the GW limited selection IMO.

First, I tried to apply Ryza Rust by stippling, exactly the same way as orange in my rust tutorial. The result was disaster and I was disappointed. I tried to cut a piece of foam from old blister and apply it using the foam, which showed huge improvement.

I actually never tried Ryza Rust and Typhus corrosion together.

Now I’ll be showing you how to paint cobblestones today. Start with an appropriate stone base.
Mine is a cobblestone base I sculpted myself.
20130202-160215.webp
Primer the base. Then base coat it charadon granite.
20130202-162452.webp
Dry brush with dhenb stone.
20130202-163203.webp
Wash with devlan mud or agrax earth shade.
20130202-173717.webp
Give it a light dry rush of dhenb stone again.
20130202-174250.webp
Wash some of the stones with either thraka green or ogryn flesh. Not a lot, just a few.
20130202-175755.webp
Stipple with Gretchen green to simulate moss.
20130202-180640.webp
That’s it for the bases, just paint the side the appropriate color. All done!
