Hi all,

Sorry for the inflammatory post title!

Myself and a few friends set up an escalation league locally and opened it up to the local players. For the most part it's been amazing fun, but one kid has sapped the fun out of every game he's played, bringing super cheesey lists, arguing over tiny rules (even when he's wrong in black and white) and trying to game the system by bringing illegal lists of 100% ambushers and trying to convince newer players that it's all legal and fine. Fittingly enough, he plays Skaven.

I've mostly just been playing for fun and having a blast. I'm pretty new to WHFB, playing less than a year, but I play MtG competitively and can easily clamp down and go into 'Play to win' mode when needed.

Here's a list I'm planning on playing, note we're at the 1500 points limit, but allow 50% lords/heroes as in the end times rules. No other End Times special units/characters/magic allowed -

Lords

Master Necromancer, lvl 4 - Nightshroud, talisman of pres.

Heroes

Vampire - Barded Nightmare, Heavy Armor, Enchanted Shield, Quickblood.

Vampire (on foot) - Additional hand weapon, Heavy armour, 'Beguile' Power (I'm almost certain he'll take assasins), dispel scroll

Core

19 Crypt Ghouls

31 skeleton warriors, sword and board, full command

20 zombies, standard bearer

Special

8 Black knights - barding, lances, full command

Rare

Terrorgeist

How does this look to other VC players? I'm a bit worried about the big points sink in a terrorgeist at this level, especially as I'm not 100% on the tactics with it. Any tips?

With all this in mind, here is a list of the models I own. Would you take a different list?

Characters - 1 mounted vamp, 2 foot vamps, 2 necromancers, 1 banshee, 1 wraith

Core - roughly 40 skellies, 40 zombies, 20 ghouls, 10 dire wolves.

Special - 10 black knights, 1 corpse cart, 20 grave guard, 5 hexwraiths, 3 spirit hosts

Rare - black coach, terrorgeist

I know I need some crypt horrors, but the hobby budget is on hold right now!

Any advice would really be appreciated, list building, tactics, general 'how the crap do i use VC's as an army' all of it! I need to up my game for this one :) Thanks!

I mean this is a very aggressive list and we all know skaven ain't the highest leadership so if you find something on it's own the terrorgheist will ANNIHILATE IT! lol But I'm not sure how I feel about just 20 ghouls. I don't have any but i feel that 40 skeletons and or 50 zombies would last a lot longer so many more wounds! at this point lesel... but you can also keep a unit of 20 alive with raising I suppose. I don't like small undead units because of bad magic phases hehe. Everything else seems fine. maybe black guard instead of knights but thats just my preference also. More wounds makes skaen mad. we can play the hoard game just as good as they can if not better. We come back to life..er death or whatever! lol

Lord, Lv. 4 LoV, HA + shield, sword of strife, red fury, quickblood, barded nightmare, Tal of pres, OTS
(expensive, i know. Though he'll do all your killing for you. My opponent hates this guy to death. I once killed about 12+ plague monks in 1 round with this guy, his jaw dropped to the table!)

10x black knights, barding, lances, Full command : banner of swiftness

I'd use this as your "main" fighting force. Oh and never consider a nightshroud on a necromancer, despite what it says in the discription that they can wear it. ;)

Yeah I thought about the Grave guard, but at least with cavalry they cant get dreaded 13th'd! The ghouls can go, but I wanted a unit that could actually chew through some of his models a little more reliably.

I could cut the ghouls, go up to 40 skellies and 30 zombies (raise more anyway) which then leaves me points for two units of 5 dire wolves in case he has any war machines, and an extra black knight, giving me 9 of those. I just hate playing skaven, I can never beat them!

@Hutobega Don't underestimate skaven LD. On their own, yes they suck. Though they get "strength in numbers" for each rank they have adding up to an easy LD of 10. OR they have IP from their general nearby, as they should.

Why no nightshroud Hellion? my thoughts behind it are that he will definintely bring assasins, and with 2 vamp heroes the necro ends up being my general. I'd like to protect him! Thats also where the vamp on foot with beguile comes in, standing next to him.

The vamp lord might be a touch too pricy at 1500 points!

Also hellion, as the rules say as far as terrorgeists go with skaven (and I checked because several people play skaven in the league!) they get to 'use' the generals leadership. They don't get the bonus from strength in numbers ranks as it's not a leadership test, it's a check. So while they can use the generals leadership, they dont get the bonus. Which is great for a terrorgeist!

My 2 cents. Nightshroud is a must, the skaven I play always bring mr fellblade (S10 D6 wounds, ward save must be reroll). I'd also go vamp Lord. I set mine up as lvl4, power stone, potion of strength for abomination killing, enchanted shield, sword of strife, seed of rebirth, red fury quickblood, does me good.
