This thread is for voting on the hero level characters for the Legion of Nagash.

Please note: This is not to vote whether they fit in with the theme etc. That is what the discussion in the threads is for.

It is to check and ensure we have created fair rules that are not unbalancing, or there is not something grossly wrong that has been over looked.

This Poll will close on 06/09/09

-Terror
-Harbringer of Death
Clad in dark shrouds these fell creatures are much more than normal wraiths. They are the bringers of death, charged by the Dark Lord himself to destroy those individuals who would stand in his way
Reapers have the Killing Blow special rule, however it works on a 6 to hit, not to wound. Additionally at the start of the battle chose one enemy character. The Reaper may re-roll any failed to hit rolls when fighting the chosen character.
The Reaper may not be the armies general nor confer his Ld on any unit he joins.

-Walk Between Worlds
The Reaper has the ability to walk in the world of spirits, making sure he reaches his target without delay
The Reaper may scout as per the BRB, however he cannout use this ability if mounted

Mount(one choice only)
Skeletal Steed............20 pts.

Magic Items
Common/Nagash's Legion Lists up to a total of..............100 pts.
A Reaper may not choose any magical armour. He may not choose his magic weapons from the standard Legion of Nagash list, but must instead choose from the below:

The Blade of Souls - 100pts
As per the Legion of Nagash Magic Weapon list.

The Rendering Blade - 40pts
Barbed and jagged beyond reasoning, even a glancing blow from this weapon can rip a body in twain
Great Weapon. The Reaper has the normal Killing Blow rule in addition to his special Killing Blow rule i.e. he will effect a Killing Blow on a 6 to hit and a 6 to wound.

Great Divide - 40pts
This unwieldy scythe would seem to be far too cumbersome, however its strikes kill dragons and daemons in a single blow
Great Weapon - The Reaper's Killing Blow affects creatures of any size.

Unseen Death - 40pts
Light and as insubstantial as a ghost, this blade allows its wielder to attack with almost unmatched speed
Great Weapon - Bearer gains ASF and doubles their I in combat

Chill Touch - 35pts
The touch of the Reaper is deathly cold, sapping the strength and will to live of any foe it touches
Great Weapon. For every successful wound caused the enemy model permanently suffers a -1 to their S & T to a minimum of 1.

Spectral Blade - 35pts
This weapon has a life of its own, and can find its way past the stoutest parry, or defend from the strongest blows
Great Weapon. The reaper has +1 to hit. Also all enemies suffer -1 to hit when targeting the Reaper in Close Combat

Yes...

Other then simplifying equipment options (which I know I commented on before in the Pinnacle Guard entry iirc).

I'd rather just remove the "free shield" equipment, and list options as such:

  • May take a Shield (+2 pts)
May take any one of the following: GW (+4 pts), extra HW (+3 pts), or Halberd (+2 pts)

Not that I recall...

The options just look cumbersome the way that they are written... and I can't think of any existing characters that get "refunded" for returning equipment that they don't want. :D

With some of the spelling mistakes I've caught... it'd have to be a little less obvious for me to miss :D

I'll happily assist with going over things to proof read and check for inconsistencies, etc.. once everything is done. I've noticed a few oddities here and there (example: equipment options not scaling up correctly from Hero to Lord level characters).

need to amend wraith wording about target character it could look like only the reaper can re roll vs him so not troops with hatred just to stop some idiot trying to argue and spoiling the game for everyone concerned

otherwise its a yes

Mortuary Priest is good. No complaints.

Zenith Prince, however, seems undercosted. He's a Wight King who comes with full plate rather than heavy armour, he has cheaper and better equipment options, and has a short-range Vampire rule. Needs a 10-20pt bump.

Nagashi Captain is fine. Nice having an extra BSB-esque thing in the army.

That reminds me. Shouldn't we have a BSB option? I don't see it in any of the entries.

Reaper is good, but I don't see why you put him as 1 per 2000. He's not that good, except against Vamps/Tomb Kings, and even then it's a question of getting him there.

Its 25pts for BsB option.

I agree with raising Zenith Princes to 110pts.

However, I'd keep the one per 2000pts for the Reaper, damn, I'd increase the points a little.
Just trawling through for broken combos, Gem of Souls+Great Divide. Reaper is now the perfect monster hunter. 4+Ward, Eathereal (Dragon can't attack), and Killing blow against the monster. Thats four attacks with the possibility of Killing blow, which presents quite a threat. If it doens't one shot the monster, you now have 2-3 Str 5 attacks, which should do some damage. Then the Reaper can take its fair share, with a 4+ Ward.

So, Defs one per 2000, no more.

BSBs range in cost from about 25 pts (or free if your Bretonnia :D) to 35-40 pts... I'd look at the BSB cost from the VC list and just use that (it's 25, I just checked). Zenith Prince or Nagashi Captain should both be options for a BSB.

They should be able to carry magic standard of no points limit (should look over the list to ensure that none of the magic std should be disallowed - checked, just the one that is already not for BSB), or their normal magic/powers/etc allowance instead.

--------------------

Regarding the Reaper... what about 0-1, and only usable at 2k+? (if there are valid concerns regarding power level).

I'd be okay with a slight point increase on the Zenith Prince...

Looking really good, setting up a playtest for some of this stuff as we speak.

The BsB option should be for both the Zenith Prince and Captain for 25pt and no point limit but no other magic items, like all other 7th edition armies imo.

The mortuary priest could have a point reduction and just whack that scarab jar in the 'armoury' section of the armybook and put it in there for a points cost (not as a magic item), not many armies come with free items on their heroes.

The reaper sounds good, not sure how necessarily devastating one per army is, so if I give some of these rules a little playtest - I can tell you by the end of the day.

PS - Shouldn't the Hellsteed on Mortuary Priest be 20pts?

PPS - I noticed the Standard thread is already locked and voted through, however in Nagash the Sorceror doesn't Nagash make a banner out of the still-living hide of an enemy king? Thought that'd be a nice fluff item to put in, I'm actually knocking around ideas for a model for one right now, would make a cool BsB)

The scarab jar is part of what makes Mortuary Priest, a Mortuary Priest. I prefer it as a given, not an option.

:Nice idea on the banner.
:Reapers don't need a 2000pts + limit, as that is when they are useful, earlier they are to costly and with a lack of targets to be effective.

Vekarin the Dark Bladed said:
I have not seen a BSB cost that is not 25 points.

Almost all of them are 25 pts (I remember there being more variation in past editions). Oh well. Bretonnians get one for "free" and the Wood Elf BSB is only 15 pts.

please amend the reaper wording as i have mentioned above

i just think some N** will exploit this rule at a game and ruin everyones experience

The wording should be like this:

  • Additionally at the start of the battle chose one enemy character. The Reaper may re-roll any failed to hit rolls when fighting the chosen character.

Doombunny was concerned that some a$s might say that you can't use rerolls granted by magic items, hatred, etc vs the chosen character due to your use of the word ONLY (and lack of a comma before or after the word only).

Additionally at the start of the battle chose one enemy character. Against that character only the Reaper may re-roll any failed to hit rolls.

Ah I see now. Would you believe I took advanced English? xd Anyway I have amended the wording as requested.

Has anyone any other comments about the other changes before I make them?
