How did you chose your vc army

I've been fascinated by Vampires ever since I started listening to Atreyu. I had wanted to start playing WHFB for some time since 40K was starting to get just downright stupid, so after looking at the choices of armies, the Counts where the obvious choice.

It was the Blood Knights who really made me set my mind on playing the counts though. The models are simply fantastic.

Dark, noble (in appearance, anyway), powerful, gothic and damn near immortal. You've gotta love it! :)

How romantic, Foddie...

Well, I agree with TDS and MasterSpark. Cool concept, cool models, and cool background. Furthermore, by that time I was addicted to Diablo II and the necromancer was pure win, let's face it! :D

I've played ever since it was undead, which I got into purely because it had Nagash in it. So when I started playing again there was only one army I was coming back to.......

Well i havent technically started playing WFB yet, and i had a hard time choosing what army to go for. I too remember when the army was simply Undead and have always liked them but largely ignored Fantasy Battle in favour of 40k.

I think that the great miniature ranges and prospect of interchangable box sets, and thus vast scope for conversion has swayed me.

Now i just need to wait for my Army Book and initial units to arrive. :)

I traded a Leman Russ for a bunch of undead.

Hehe, love at first sight? xD

To me it was the massive conversion potential. Other than that, the story of the Vampires is good, alongside everything dead (zombies are too funny ~ I want a petzombie!).

Hmmm so many choices... there is as stated before... zombies...how do you pass that up!
I like the opportunites to switch things up and make anything undead..
and I just flat out am intrigued with vampires (i even screetch at the light), once I found out Warhammer had vampires i was pretty much sold on the game..

Big fan of horror, especially the supernatural. Decided to build up an army using the history of Elizabeth Bathory as the backstory.

Plus, after playing Skaven I'm looking forward to playing with troops that never panic.

A number of reasons.

First and foremost I thought it looked easy to paint the skeletons en masse. By (ab)using drybrushing to redicilous proportions I thought I could paint loads of units real quick, which actually also looked good. I've used drybrushing on skeletons before with sucess. Ironically, skeletons is the unit which I'm having the most trouble painting now since I suddenly decided to change the way I'm painting them and haven't come up with a good substitue yet.

Secondly I really like the idea of having an army which is easily integrated with a fluffy storyline. I really enjoy playing narrative games which I can put weave background stories and epic tales around. As such I first and foremost though about playing humans since they're so easy to make up stories with. Human greed and ambition makes them fight in all theateres of the world, while lizardmen and wood elves on the other hand hardly ever leave their native lands and thus allmost exlusively fight defence battles. Makes it kind of hard to argue why lizardmen and wood elves should ever meet on the field of battle. However I suddenly realized that vampires are really just humans, their ambition, greed and desire for power only more fueled by their new undead nature. So there's not hard to come up with a vampire personality which have some personal reason to fight in any particular theater of war at any particular time. And if one vampire is there, odds are that he brought his army of undeads with him (it's not like the zombies are going to reject :P ).

Back in 96 I think, White Dwarf printed an artcle about a guy playing in the GT with an Undead Army. Fell in love then, and after 9 years away playing 40k, have come back to play.

I love the image of a horde of zombies and skeletons lumbering slowly towards the enemy, and my lists reflected, amd still do, this.

There were very few armybooks in my local shop 15 years ago, and since my brother was collecting dwarves I decided to pick an evil army, and the Undead were the most interesting and radically different enemies. The problem is that is a difficult army to lead for newbies, so it took me quite a lot of defeats to get on with it (and we did not have magic cards and book, and playing and undead army without magic was quite challenging).

Since them, I'm on the VC train, and I think I've never regret my decision, even in late 6th ed, when VC were relatively weak.

I started off with Empire back in the day, then a few years off, then Ogres, then a few more years off and back into it with Wood Elves. After the high movement, good shooting, moderately low magic, "elite" core units and hit and run tactics of the WE I wanted to try out something very different. So VC fit the bill pretty well. I also liked the idea of hordes of skelletons and the general actually getting an armour save. Why I ended up with 30 ghouls in my first 500pt list I really dont know
I am looking forward to some good conversion and painting opportunities with unit fillers and scenery and mini diaramas inside units.
If I can get a flymo in there I shall be very happy :)

me too, when a friend suggested that we start warhammer i was unsure about it as i didn't know anything of it, but as soon as he said there was a vampire army i was like 'sign me up'

A friend of mine started out VC with the 7th ed. book, but I continually massacred him with my wood elves, and he found the play style a little limited, so I took over his VC just to give them a chance.

I was tempted to do skaven, as I really wanted to try out an army with big infantry regiments, rank bonuses etc., but two others in my group was about to try out the little fur balls, and the dark gothic feel of the boney horde did appeal a lot to me, so right now I'm painting lots of skeletons and grave guards :)

Me hehe, can't paint well, like Chaos warriors cause they are martially charged super umber killing machine, along came 6th ed with the Blood dragon guy smilling at me... never turn back eversince....:frown:

Though I eventually get better at painting and started Chaos warriors!!! Buts thats another story and you don't really want to know.xD
