Yeah how do you get psyched before you play a console/Pc game or maybe a game of warhammer.

I have a TONNE of videos/songs i listen to BUT I will start to post the number 1, I have this videos in the background when I playing games, making Warhammer armés and some time even when I going to sleep.=P

So how do you get psyched?

When I used to play hockey, I'd get psyched by a sort of meditation. Just breathing, thinking about what's coming my way, and building adrenaline. I played goalie, so super fast reflexes were really important (those pucks can fly at you 100km/h from 10-20m away). I don't think I ever got pumped up for warhammer or video games though!

I'm sure MS has some techniques... he Loves video games that need fast reflexes

Actually Grish, I'll let you in on a little trade secret: in the Bullet Hell Shooter games that I'm playing, the need for fast reflexes is really only true at face value – in practice, those reflexes are good only for when you're losing or have lost control of a situation. No man, the real deal is to fully learn how your character moves with every push of the buttons, the speed and distance travelled when lightly tapped etc. This is so that you can actually let go of the player character with your eyes and instead keep a lookout on the area ahead of you while you're cruising and weaving past bullets with an image of your own position in your mind, with a quick glance every now and then to refresh the image. You need to find the openings as they come towards you and act as soon as possible - if you keep your sight locked on your character (which is still required here and there, depending on the bullet pattern in question) you'll miss your opportunities to escape CERTAIN DEATH! :vampire2:

There is however another sub-genre of Shooter games known as Manic Shooters, which rely more or less entirely on your reflexes with masses of directed high-speed projectiles and less intricate patterns. I haven't really given any game like that a go though, which I suppose I should do sometime...

Anyway!

I usually work on a basis of confidence in games and stuff like that. I go into the fray with thoughts of how awesome I am and of the grand feats that I'll accomplish. My confidence tends to wax and wane depending on how well I'm doing though, which can make the opening phase rather crucial to my continued performance – if I start off well, greatness just might lie ahead. And if I don't... well, I'll hang in there and do my best to turn things around. Another little pitfall is the urge to prove myself when playing with unfamiliar people, which can make me rather nervous. And if I'm playing or doing something that I know I don't stand any strong chance of winning, I tend to just let it go and instead fantasize about how glorious I would be if we'd be doing something on my terms. I'm a really sore loser when it comes down to it, but this is a good defence mechanism to keep it in check.

I wouldn't really say I get pumped for a game of warhammer, but I definitely put myself into a certain mood of sorts by singing to myself "in the valley of death, i am their king" which is a song by Judas Iscariot. When I play 40k on the other hand I think of nothing, but genocide, this guy's army I'm gonna play is only the beginning, all life will be exterminated, I put myself into a Necron mind set.

As for video games, hockey I usually just listen to the games soundtrack and sometimes I wear my Devils hat and/or jersey. DotA, NWN2, D2:LoD, AoM and a bunch of other games I play I don't really psyche myself up at all until I accomplish something in the game and usually from there I'm in a more focused mindset, my friend says I don't blink to often when I'm like that. MoH:AA is probably the only game when I really get psyched up, my play style is pretty much run and gun/guerrilla tactics and if you stop moving you're good as dead. I usually am either thinking or listening/humming "Be Quick or Be Dead" by Iron Maiden when I'm playing that game and even when I'm getting pwnd I'm still in a pretty upbeat mood because of it.

Heh, how do I get psyched? Lets see, empty a pack of sherbet into the cheapest and strongest energy drink you can find, then, with all that excess energy and your heart going like you've done a flour bags worth of coke, run as fast as you can  You need a little time to do all this, but it feels damn great! Even kept the muscles in my leg from wasting away into nothing (Shame about my stickman arms though..)

@bahamutzer0: Is this the devil hat you are speaking about?

or is it a hockey team named devils? I suck at sport.=P

Like MS said in most games you only need your reflex in tight spots otherwise you need to be cool and focus, if you get to psyched you will start to do stupid things.

I watch videos so I will get in to the mood for the game, I don't want to sit and play a game I want to play like I'm in the game. Example when playing Warcraft 3, I don't want to be like "Yeah helped to save Thralls people, nice." "Crap I'm in a tight spot well reload" I want to be like "LOK'TAR OGAR THERE IS NO RELOAD THERE IS NO SAVE BUTTON". ( for you that don't know LOK'TAR OGAR mean victory or death on Orcish in Warcraft.). This maybe sound crazy to you guys (and girls)? ^^
But I'm like that shiver in my neck I get from watching "Epic" videos and playing games. (I'm not mad I'm just a geek. ^^)

Random bursts of... Random ideas usually spawned from;

1. Playing video games, like Dragon Age: origins and awekening and King Arthur(the strategy game).
2. Reading a book. I am currently reading about the history of western philosophy there is plenty of inspiration right there.
3. Watching a movie. Much like with books, you never know what will get you pumped.
4. Last but not least, music. Music is has a very profound effect of me with its ability of making conjure up images in my mind.

Can't get truly psyched unless I start some kinda conflict. Might just be my medication mellowing out my general mood though. Being in the middle of some heavy rain or a storm always seems to get me fired up though.

@Nicodemus: I mean my New Jersey Devils hat. The one you posted would be pretty funny though. I could see my Dad or friends coming into my room and immediately asking me what I'm doing or if I am feeling ok if I were wearing that.

Energy drinks are something I usually have on hand too, usually either an Amp, Full Throttle or Vault, but its become damn hard for me to find Vaults around my area. Gotta have cigarettes too, but that just goes without saying that I always want cigarettes handy no matter where I am or what I'm doing.

Depends on what I'm getting psyched for.

If It's a fight or some sort of Sports event, I have a certain set of songs I listen to. Namely, Godsmacks little number called 'I F***in' hate you." among some other similar titles.

If it's some narrative piece, writing, or roleplay then I simply read a damn good book. Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, J.R.R Tolkein, Oscar Wilde....the list goes on an on. Read a good book -> Inspiration for good writing. A direct link, I see.

For a Warhammer game? I just talk shop with the boys at the gaming club. Discuss tactics, ideas, fluff....and of course I bounce ideas here from the other great Vampiric minds. :)
