Im used to 40k where WYSIWIG is important. What I am wondering is What You See Is What You Get is as important in Fantasy? I am having trouble representing Armour / Gems etc on our Vampires especially when it comes to fielding a vamp on foot. I have several of the old Strigoi Models on foot but how do you represent armour / shields and helmets or for that matter magic weapons on those?

Is it appropriate at tournament level play to explain to your opponent what each hero model has as long as each model can be represented separately (different paint or pose)?

For that matter, our skellies are not represented with light armour like the High Elves rank and file models. Is it ok to say that these models have armour even though light armour is not represented?

WYSIWYG isn't that big a thing in fantasy. In 40k it's crucial because there is clear ways of showing everything and models in a unit can all have very different equipment, but in fantasy less so.

In the tournament scene you will be expected to have the weapons/ shields that a unit has on your army list as well as any command models. skeletons are fine because those are the official models which state that they have light armour (and there is actually some on a few of the models).

As for heroes, I've never seen it demanded that a heroes equipment be represented WYSIWYG, simply because there's so much up for interpretation on what each magic item is/ should look like, so it depends on your tournament. You would be required to have a weapon (or something that seems reasonably like a weapon such as claws) or a shield on your model if you are taking a magic shield. Obviously mundane weapons and shields need to be shown as well.

Some tournaments have you explain what each character is equipped with before the game begins, while others have you reveal equipment only when you use it.

Most tournaments i have been to are pretty lax on heroes and their weaponry.
For troops it is better if you can give them the right equipment. Even if it may be a sub optimal choice unusually isn't that bad

Well one of my buddies hate not having WYSIWYG models, thus he gave his Deamon Prince a sheild. It's different looking, Not bad at all gecause he is a great hobbyist, but it's weird seeing a prince who cares enough about his life to carry a sheild into battle! If it makes you feel any better, WYSIWYG is what you make out of it. I agree that characters it really doesnt matter too much. I wouldn't have a model with a sheild, and not give the character a sheild of some kind but even that isn't necessary as long as you have your list with you.

Thanks, I actually went to Hobby Lobby and found a button that looks just like a picture I found of the ptolos shield. Its the perfect size to compliment the old strigoi models.

Its an Old Strigoi Model from a couple of editions back when we had bloodline vamps.

It is not the strigoi ghoul king model from the terrorghiest kit.

I use it because I modeled wings from the old abysal terror kit onto the old strigoi model looks perfect but still only plays as a normal baby vamp with flying horror.

I love playing WYSIWYG. Even better I love modeling it.

The new multi part vampire from the dragon kit works great with magnetized bits he even has a head option with a helmet.

I used a dremal tool and putty to remove his dragon saddle and I can magnetize him to any mount I have.

As far as units go the group I play with usually says at least the front two ranks needs to have the proper equipment for tournament play.

If its friendly play or your trying out a list you just announce what they have before you start turn one.
