How many casters?

Hey everyone!

I came up with the idea (actually it's not my idea since a lot of people are running similar lists) of using a level 4 VL (general, so he is using lore of vampires) and 2 level 2 (one vampire and one necro) death casters in a Black Knight bus. I was thinking I nedd the level 4 for dispelling and IoN and also for spell variety in the lore of vampires (so I will get some of the good stuff). But then I love lore of death and many spells are tempting in certain circumstances.

I think I have too many casters. It's always good to have a bit of variety to adapt to those circumstances mentioned but you pay a huge amout of points for this and our characters are not really cheap without all the additional levels and stuff.

Maybe you could give me a view in your thoughts:
What kind of lore and caster do you prefer? Would you go with a level 4 VL and 2 level 2 death? Or just a level 4 VL, a level 1 or 2 death and a level 1 vampire-lore backup? Can someone see any usage in a level 1 VL and 2 level 2 death (so no level 4 at all)?

And one last question: how many casters are you USING (really casting spells)? When running a level 4 lore of vamps, is there any room for something else except maybe for a level 1 death with the sig spell?

2 to 3 times non-life with vampire thralls for 25 points power + a wizarding hat and you can do whatever you like for 125 points of warrior-wizard, a healing potion, a potion of toughness.

And one last question: how many casters are you USING (really casting spells)? When running a level 4 lore of vamps, is there any room for something else except maybe for a level 1 death with the sig spell?

go coven with any combination IMHO 2 level threes are better pointswise but they do not have the above upgrade.

I believe that backup LoV caster is pretty essential. This extra attempt at IoN can be a game-changer. If you have only one LoV caster the enemy will simply save his dice/scrolls for your IoN and it'll be much easier to predict.

I don't know if IoN is that important. Of course, getting 5 BK back with one cast of IoN is really annoying for any opponent but with that many useful spells (of both lores, death and vampires) I often found myself using my power dice for other spells. And if he fears my level 4 VL casting IoN and saves all his dice for it, fine. Vanhels is much more needed in my list... But I see your point, of course.

Personally, I run 1 level 4 and a level 2 with LoV (vamp lord and necro) and a level 2 vamp with shadow but then, I don't run anything that screams so, d&d isn't necessary. I don't care too much about sniping characters, my vampires will happily feed from them in cc.

I tend to run a VL lvl 1 on LoV, a MN Lvl 4 on death, a necro lvl 1 on LoV, and a Vamp lvl 1 on shadow. I shoot of the Cursed book, then roll for a few other spell that I feel like I need that turn (Maybe a few other hexes or a P-Sun). I use IoN when needed, then for the 1 trick poney I throw a boosted Miasma from the hero vamp (He has a power stone).

A Level 4 Death would be an optimal solution. Someday I am planning on trying a list with a SGK and a MN and 2 ME. Unfortunately I am lacking in most of the models needed for such a list so it's my old BK bus/deathstar list atm, hence no MN.

I think I will go for my old approach and stay with my level 4 vampire, a level 1 death and a level 1 vampire for additional IoN and backup. I am saving 70 points on the heroes which I can invest in something else. I always find myself wanting those death spells cast and don't have enough PD left for Vanhels or IoN, which is bad. And then again I want those death spells cast by a level 4... So I will concentrate on getting the most out of our lore and an occasional sniper spell instead of wanting it all.

I hope I can get a few games against Skaven and Lizardmen in the near future. Let's see if I can improve my skills with our lore (which need to be improved). If I got time I will post some reports (and try Battle Chronicler... Something I want to learn for almost a year now...).

I started do play a lvl Vamp Lord, a lvl 4 MN with vampire lore, and 2 lvl 2 death necros. 2 death snipes + a D&D or Purple sun can do wonders.
Shadow is not good enough if not run on a lvl 4 which in case of our army is only possible in large games.
