I've got somewhere in the neighborhood of 130-140 zombies. At 2500 pts, how would you field them (2 groups, 3, etc)? what configuration? (5 wide, 7, etc) ? Thanks in advance.

I like a unit of 20 and 35, both with full command at 2.5k points. Never more or less than 5 wide for ranks. Depending on number of LoV casters they get big pretty fast.

Now I'm close to agreeing with this, I either like 20 man units for quick cheap road blocks, or true tar pits and run like 55 - 60 of them in a unit then not worry about IoN with them and worry about Van Hals, Hellish Vigour, or Raise Dead for even more zombies!! Then you can always make that 60 man zombie unit all the way up to ... a billion zombies? Tarpit of forever!

I second (or.. third?) Adam, Bullhax and Corien!

EDIT: I just reached Vampire Thrall status! xD! with this post! hehehehehehe.... mwahahahahahahahahahahah!

Congratulations on Moderator status, Corien! I'm sure you'll enjoy the new powers, and the authority you will have! Excellent work, and congratulations to the person who recommended you!

Wow... am I going to own that many skeletons some day? I'm terrified and strangely excited.

I vote fielding them in one enormous unit twenty wide and seven deep. I don't know if it would actually be any good, but imagine your opponent's face when he looks at it!

Well I personally own around 400 zombies so yeah lol its possible.

The biggest issue with huge frontages like that is that opponents will be able to charge 1 unit with 2 maybe even 3 units and rhrow buckets of dice and could probably drop that unit in 2 rounds. Small frontage reduces attacks and makes for a more managable unit. Maybe less intimidating to a less trained eye but if I see a unit of 65 skellies 5 wide then I see a real tar pit.

Or... you can spend 300-ish points on pure zombies, field them 50 wide 2 deep and all your army behind them.

No gunline is going to drop those many zombies, and when oponents charge them just fly! fly!

I've always wanted to do that.

What else is fun is 182 zombies in a unit then run them 91 wide by 2 deep. This is literally the entire length of the board. Then you run 7 banshees and 2 ME's behind them just yelling at whatever they get into combat with, and 2 level 4 MN's to constantly res them.

Well.. yeah, that's even better, haha! and will fill your Core points nicely too at 2500

I only play 2000 - 2500 games =(

It's a shame to have painted that Zombie Dragon and not using it.

Anyways, it's always safe to own around 100 zombies, just in case you want to out-deploy your enemies with either multiple 20-wound small units that will get on the way, or you want a big tarpit of 40+ to cover the side of a GG horde

Would be amusing to see but that unit would suffer not in combat but rather a piece of impassible terrain would screw it completely lol

Musician! Swift Reform that thing! Or just don't move it lol

Don't forget that no model can move more than it's normal movement allows from reforming. So that "swift" reform could end up being a march!

That's why I sugested using Flyers along with them.

Hellsteed
Vargheists
Fell bats
and even Hexwraiths

of course, you can deploy them as wide as you need, and doesn't have to be the whole length of the table, just enough for other blocks to march with them until they reach their destination.

If no one kills the zombies, just charge with them! They'll kill themselves!

I'm taking 300 zombies in units of 100 to an upcoming tournament. Mortis Engine, Gheist, Lv 4 fighty lord, lv2 vamp, WK BSB, a wraith, and a banshee round out the force. In warmup games, my opponent only had a chance to ever kill one of the units and if they picked the one with the vampire lord, they kicked in the wrong door! I can't wait for the reaction when people see this wild army. Note that I'm not necessarily playing to win games but more to get a Players Choice award. It should be fun.
