How should I start?

Hello I am starting a vampire counts army here and am new to the whole fantasy scene, although I have been skulking the fantasy website for awhile now. Anyways as of now I already have one box of skeletons, one box of hex wraiths/black knights. Should I buy the restless dead set? I want to start somewhat small, anyways I have to go any ideas?

Zombies are essential for any Vampire Counts army, Battalion box set is always a good starting point with a mixture of skeletons, ghouls, wolves and a corpse cart. Other than that it depends on what type of army you want to build

Restless dead could be a good way to go if its a skeleton heavy army you want but if its more ghouls, zombies etc than its not the best idea plus with restless dead all your essentially getting for free is a wright king, no savings money wise as such (here in UK anyway)
Have you read like the VC rulebook or any of the black library novels to get an idea on a theme? Or of you dont want to do that check out the painting log thread on the site, its a good place for ideas or inspiration

Character wise, main named characters are the Von Carsteins but there's Heinrich and Krell as well. If its none named characters your after you could just about choose any hero from warhammer range with a bit of conversion work to be a vampire, wright or necromancer.
