I only said dwellers as things that can be used.
As you brought it up being used by him I thought I may as well mention its probable lack of effectiveness on the unit as allot of people here run more than a single army.
I have an empire one for instance and a powerful life and death wizard combo is a personal favorite.
I don't intend to have a vamp use life, don't worry, I have not quite gone mad yet.

Now the 3 spells I mentioned were dwellers, Purple sun and Final Transmutation.
2 of those spells vampires can use, Purple sun however as you mentioned using though is neigh on useless on high Initiative foes, thats what I was getting at.

Looks like you got confused but that's A-OK. My point saying Dwellers has the same range as Death was to illustrate that if Teclis is using Dwellers on a unit, then that unit can use Death to hit him back as they have the same range. He clearly stated that Teclis is using Dwellers.

For taking out Teclis, nothing beats Death. However, be aware Death spells all are able to be saved via a Ward Save. Still better than Final Transmutation and Metal vs. High Elves. Most of their armour is garbage, and their troops that do have high armour are immune to fire. But if Teclis does not have a decent Ward Save, then Death Spell him to death.

Another option would be to use a pair of Varghulfs and spam VHD for a move/charge. If they both can get in, very doubtful that they would both die to the Sea Guards attacks. Their attacks should kill Teclis.

Feedback scrolls can't be used with IF since you don't get a chance to dispel (Check FAQ). Also HE are no longer immune to fire with their dragon armor, just a 2+ ward save :).
Problem with using transmutation that I see is that the rest of lore of metal isn't that useful against elves, meaning if he is smart he'll save his DD for that spell. You can try to IF it although that will also mean you will miscast (unlike teclis). Perhaps your best shot though. You can try a "go for broke" strat of a scout vamp with FL to get close enough to snipe him. Maybe a flying thrall to jump out of a unit and assassinate him? Options are limited against a list like that.
Another tip is to use corpse carts/VDM to get ASF and deny their precious rerolls.

On a personal note, not to be a bad sport or anything but I personally would not give anyone who relies on Teclis the title of great tactician. He may be a great strategist but using teclis isn't displaying any particular tactical genius. Besides high elves are a fine army without relying on a special champ like him :).

Think we both just got a bit to deep into things there.

Death would be good but I always have my reservations against elves as I always see that damned world dragon banner pop up right were I don't want it.
Teclis Has no saves at all.....

Maybe but they are slower in combat than he and stand a shoot could be painful, not to mention I double they would get across the board to get close enough in the first place.

Metal is just a personal favorite, +2 to your armour save is just nice.
Also a decent sniping spell in the lore that is overlooked far to much, high elves do seem to have allot of rules in their favor, in the current edition ASF is just brutal.

Hey all

I'm not sure that the elves would get their ward save against Final Transmutation - it doesn't permit any kind of saves. Only Searing Doom and Golden Hounds have Flaming Attacks.

I personally like the secondary effect of FT - everything within 12" has to take a stupidity test next turn.

No ward saves against Final transmutation, Dwellers, or Purple Sun. But it only has a 1/6 chance of taking out Teclis. And it's a single spell, a single threat per round. I think it's a poor choice.

And if he does have Banner of the World Dragon, it doesn't matter what you have. VHD and some type of monster would be best.

Being a former High Elf player and having used Teclis previously (though not in a list like this) I will try to give some input.
First off, I'd definitely recommend a Black Coach. It has basically everything a High Elf Player dreads, impact hits and something to aggrevate his magic. Charge that at his White Lions and I can't see him having anything to go through it if it's ethereal, which it should be by that time.
Though it sounds horrible, Helm of Commandment and maybe including Fencers Blades on a caster lord could work well, as those Seaguard are hitting on 5's and if you get off Vanhels, you get the rerolls, not him. You should whip out a camera and photograph his face at this point. ;) If you can get your units into combat, they're safe from his Dwellers, though Flesh to Stone and Earth Blood could still be irritating, in which case I reccomend taking Ghouls (poisoned attacks)/ Grave Guard (Great Weapons) as well as a Flaming Banner, and those bits are neutralised.
As previously mentioned, the enormous Grave Guard unit and multiple Varghulfs might work well, best case scenario you have 10 attacks going at Teclis hitting on 2+ Wounding on 2+, I'd like to see him do anything about that.
Everyone who's mentioning miscasts, I wouldn't get your hopes up, as Teclis' first priority will be to get up Throne of Vines, so he'll have to miscast twice, and roll a 1 for him to actually miscast, and even then it's in no way a garuanteed death.
Oh, and remember to make this guy take his fear tests, my White Lions have lost to Skeleton Archers due to a failed fear test, and a failed terror check would be absolutely hilarious.
I might post some more once I have another look at the list, but I hope I've helped a little bit. :)

Not to sound dismissive, but that list is not scary. There are no eagles, and RBTs are pretty poor for their points. I've fought Teclis a LOT with my vampires, and while I've lost on a couple of occasions it was always because of some weird roll not Teclis.

1) If you're playing a grand army you can take up to four units of Wraiths, do so. He has ONE magic weapon in his army and one spell that can make attacks magic. Two units of 3-4 wraiths charging in from two different sides will pin the White Lions in place all game.

2) Take the Black Coach to pull dice off, and even consider a couple of Corpse Carts with Balefire. Remember that Teclis still has to make the casting cost of a spell for IF to kick in, unless its two sixes. Minus two to that total can make all the difference in the world.

3) Believe it or not, Teclis will mean fewer spells are cast every round. You'll almost never see Teclis cast with less than four dice, and more often its five to guarantee the IF. Any other HE high mage will be throwing 2-3 at a time. Take a feedback scroll specifically to make the HE worry and keep doing this or maybe take out one of the level 2s.

4) Thirty White Lions is actually not that many. Concentrated attacks will weaken it considerably real fast.

5) Take two caster lords both with Lore of Light and Master of the Black Arts. Pha's Protection and Net of Amyntok will mess with his shooting, and HE without the advantage of ASF re-rolls are nowhere near as scary. Take one more vampire with Light, and they're each throwing strength 6 Banishments on a 10+ out to 24". Hit any of his units with that a couple of times and he'll make damn sure to stop them from then on.

6) Teclis is a feeble little girl in close combat. He has no save that I remember, and fel bats can kill him if they can get to him. Consider throwing an otherwise innocuous unit into Teclis' face and boosting them with magic.

7) Lastly, Varghulfs are great against Sea Guard and other light HE units. Put two into the non-flaming Sea Guards and they'll slowly chew through the unit over a few turns, occasionally needing an Invocation to patch a wound. This plus the wraiths to pin the White Lions, leaves the vast majority of your army to slam into the big Sea Guard and eat them... literally.

Pyre

p.s. And if your friend ever wants to be really mean, Teclis would use Shadow. Occam's plus a unit of HE spears equals one dead unit per turn.

I'm assuming his LSG bunker will have Teclis in the second row of a front 5 unit, which is why he is so well protected. However, a feedback scroll opportunity will come up so use it, then use death magic to snipe the champion of the unit that Teclis is in, he then has to move into the front row alongside Korhill and the Bsb, simply allocate all close combat attacks at Teclis once u reach combat
