I am in the middle of starting a new thread gushing about it. Just gimme about ten more minutes. Short version, though, is you should absolutely be watching Steven Universe. It starts a bit slow, taking its time to set its generally optimistic tone before the hammers start to drop - and when they start they really don't let up, so it's important that it took its time establishing who Steven is, how much his family cares for each other, and how good humanity is despite people's flaws - to establish that these people are worth fighting for and holding onto despite how difficult and painful that becomes.

But yeah, Steven Universe. If you like western cartoons at all, or the Lilo-and-Stitch-esque 'beach town kid in broken family struggling to overcome grief while having fun adventures with aliens' gimmick, or Rebecca's work on adventure time (a lot of the more mellow emotional moments, a lot of Marceline's stuff with her dad and Bubblebum, most of the songs through the first several seasons before she split off to start working on this show), then yeah, you should be watching it.

Oh my Nagash! The writer of that did the Simon Marcy stuff?! XD That and the ending theme were the only bits I actually ever watched Adventure Time for! I think I need to watch this then XD

Yes, a lot of the Marceline stuff - her and Aberdeer, her and Bubblegum, her and Simon - came in part from Sugar (episodes co-written by her and another writer), and the songs definitely did, and Steven Universe absolutely has that, like, very real-feeling strained interpersonal emotional core under a layer of fantasy adventure thing feel to it.

If you watch Steven universe, and then go back to watch early seasons of Adventure Time, you can definitely feel her influence on Ward's show, and, sadly, can feel the lack of it in the episodes after she left. But considering that she left to work on this, if anything, even more amazing show (personal tastes may vary), I feel it was worth the trade, and I still feel Adventure Time will find its footing, even if the last season was, imo, a bit shaky.

And heck, given how much leeway Steven Universe is somehow managing to find in the queer representation thing (seriously, considering how non-negative representations of queer characters, especially in children's shows can get your show banned in several overseas markets, its frankly remarkable what Cartoon Network's been ~spoiler warning, though honestly the vid linked in my previous post was just full of spoilers ~ letting Sugar get away with), if it continues to be successful maybe the Adventure Time crew will finally get the ok to push some of the backstory and character stuff they've been implying but never been free to tackle openly with Bubblegum and Marceline for years now.

Well in truth the only episodes of adventure time I particularly enjoyed were the ones with the Ice King or Marcy in and I never really liked any of the recent episodes, so I will definitely be watching it...when I get around to watching it I don't really watch tv much.
