I need some tiny hands

Hey guys,

The title of the thread says it all. I'm working on a miniature to represent my grand general: Helena, the child vampire. I've got a good miniature done but it's currently missing suitable hands. Take a look at these pics for her size. Featured assistants are 1x mantic zombie, 1x mantic grave guard conversion, 1x chaos warrior, 1x chaos dwarf, 1x crypt horror and Heinrich Kemmler's hat. One picture also shows a yard stick to give you the true height.

















Now, the trouble is with finding good, suitable hands. I want them both empty and neutral, either open or closed. GW's heroic-scale models go right out. I need some model that is either smaller in scale or just delicate enough to work. The original model I've used for Helena is actually a 32mm scaled one, so I think there should be something to work with out there, somewhere.

Please let me know if you can think of something. If I get some good leads I'm very open to purchasing the model(s) in order to find out if it works or not.

To help, I'm wondering if Hasslefree might not have the hands you could use... There's a figure called "HFA030 Alyx", a kind of teen aged goth schoolgirl with loads of separate hand options, and she's small.... pretty close I think to this one.

The handgun is out... but maybe the wand or teddybear....?

I personally would advise terror tot models from the Malifaux range.
very small hands and meant to be child sized. i use them in games and fit perfectly for what your looking for.

I knew I'd forget something in my opening post. The character is supposed to look like a child but not act like one and that's why I want to go with empty hands. I want her to be sort of inconspicuous. That leaves the teddybear out, sadly. :tongue:

@Dark Rose, the miniature I've used is the right side of this one. Cipher Studios is the makers, Anima Tactics the game.

I've shortened her legs and arms and also used a minimally thin plasticard base (0.25mm) to get her down to about the correct height relative to other models. Finding a child-sized model that doesn't appear childish is a challenge.

@Duke Danse Macabre, aside from the weapons I think they would've been perfect but I did find the young nephilim from the same maker. They might be a fit!

One other alternative I've found is the green lady from Mantic.

If you can think of anything else please let me know. Perhaps there might be something good in ~20mm ranges?

Edit: Oh, and some good news: I found Mantic's green lady in a local webstore for a pretty small price. I should be getting it home either tomorrow or early next week. If nothing else I'll be able to use it as more reference material.

The young Nephilim are good but i have some right next to me, they are not small enough for what you want, they are the size of a mans hands i'm afraid.

Ah, that's a shame. And the juveniles from Hasslefree would be perfect in size, probably like the terror tots, but none of them have free hands... aside from the rock'n'roll sign.

I would go with a model of a child too. You could try Zombiecide maybe as those minis have some smaller hands.

Hmmmm? If human hands are too big, what about from a halfling or gnome figure? Most of the nicer Reaper ones might be good, maybe this guy: Pathfinder Balazar the Iconice Gnome Summoner. he's unarmed... but his hands might look odd with the fingers splayed out like that.

Reaper had some children in it's Townsfolk line if memory serves me and I'm remembering Westwind had some Child Victims and child vampires in thier Vampire wars line that might serve too for tiny hands....

I think I'll be looking into other ranges and scales (I heard a tip about Horrorclix) if Mantic's green lady won't turn out good. I actually have Westwind's child vampires from before and while some of them have hands of the right size they're unfortunately not very well sculpted. They're awfully blocky.

Hello again!

I'm happy to report that the hands from Mantic's green lady work well. They could stand to be about a millimeter or so smaller in all around size but I think I can make do with them. They're also well detailed but my pictures didn't really capture it. With painting I'll be able to pick it out much more clearly. Please let me know what you think from the pictures below. They show the different angles and also some more size comparisons, this time with the resident necromancer and a fenrisian dire wolf.








I'll still keep an eye open for other candidates that might work out better but this'll do in the mean time.

Well if they don't work I have found another that will.
Malifaux December Acoyltes hands are very small as they are meant to be women, they would be perfect for the scale your looking phone.

Must say that is a tiny model though, looking forwards to seeming it lead the undead hords.

Those ones look very good. I hope that one of their left hands can be freed somehow. They also seem to have pretty small feet which is one other little nagging point I have with my miniature right now - her feet are proportionally a little bit large, although nowhere near as bad as GW does it.

It's hilarious to put the miniature next to others' heroes and monsters. I want to run into someone with the new Nagash or one of the mortarchs or something like that.

Have you considered going down a scale to true 28mm? I was was thinking of the Clubmen Militia set by Warlord for Pike and Shotte. The models all have very tiny hands and most are open to accommodate hand weapons that require assembly. Your post made me think of a small boy in a morion throwing a stone from that set. I think the hands on any number of these models would be at least as small as you require my concern would be they might not be as detailed as you might like.

I'm definitely open to other scales. I think that Mantic does most things in true 28mm scale though. The green lady miniature that I stole the hands from certainly appears that way.

You're probably right about their hands. Since they're all meant to be carrying something the palms are probably not sculpted at all. But Warlord games have a pretty massive range so I'll take a look around there also. Perry miniatures are around the same size as well, aren't they?

I would of said LOTR's is also good for the scale you want but no real options for children, more teen considering the height but still workable.

Oh yeah, those are small indeed. Do you think you could get a millimeter measurement on the length of the feet? From the back of the heel to the tip of the toes? And also the width, if possible.

The length of the shoes are 4mm, Width is 1.5mm

Those feet are about the same size as the ones I have at 4mm long and 2mm wide. I think I want to reach something like 3mm long and 1.5mm wide. I will probably have to search through smaller scales to find something like it.

Do anyone have one or more of the Hasslefree juveniles around for foot measurement?

The boot tips on these are curved, its easy to trim them the extra MM with no bother.
