So I hadn't actually played in about a year and was quite rusty/overwhelmed with the rules, and decided to have a 2,000 point game with three other guys. The whole game, my Varghulf was absolutely killing it (only the second time I'd fielded him) and though he died at the very end, he was MVP of the game for me. Then I got home and realized that I had been playing him with flying, which he does not have. In my defense, I don't think I was the first person to assume he had flying, my friend advised I deploy him behind the river because he could just fly over it. I think I won't admit this one to my friends for a little while. But just FYI, a Varghulf with flying is fecking indestructible.

Indeed, he's beasty enough to not need flying, so when you get the mobility, he's basically a super speed hammer of death. Reminds me of winged hivetyrants. Dear god.

Always thought it should of had "fly" but we do have Vargheists now...

Yeah, I'm going to feel pretty weak playing future games without it, but it's inspired me to play Vargheists cause they're not too far behind.

At one point though I had to double check how many points he was, because I was thinking for 175 I would field three of them.

Yeah, the Varghulf always looks like it should have Fly. In fact, my friends were really aghast when I told them that it didn't even have Swiftstride.

Do you mean back when they were good?

Yeah that always bugged me when I first got our book. "Oh sweet a giant monster bat...that can't fly...."

Well if the Vargulf was winged they'd have to tone the power down or it'd be OP, and I'd rather have a powerful non winged beasty than a varghesit.

Indeed. How about this GW - if you're going to the trouble of giving a undead werewolf wings, at least let it use them.

Also, I'd settle for Hover - so it could leap over units.

Actually, talking of disappointments with the Varghulf, am I the only one who read that it had the 'Bestial Fury' rule and thought "wow, that sounds awsome."? Then I read the rule. "Oh."

I'm not sure as I've never had need to use it. Only person who uses it round here uses it on his bloodthirster. I'd have to double check. Either way vanhals still works :-).
