3m tall blue catwoman? Is that arousing?
Yes. Yes I do.

Whos idea was it anyway to stick your catman/woman's hair tentacle into a random creature's orifice?
Judging by the fact every fauna on Pandora seemed to have it, it probably wasn't anyone's 'idea' per say...It seems to be some kind of highly advanced nerve endings able to send and receive information to and from other nerve endings. It probably developed as a kind of sensory organ for the fauna of Pandora...but to do what is anyone's guess.
Actually, that's the only thing that bothered me about the movie was wondering "How in the hell did that evolve!?!?!?" but that's my Biology/Zoology background being nit-picky.

Hell yeahxD

You furvert! *sneaks behind in perv-line*

But the mivie...yeah. Okay the CGI was strong in this one and really, really well done. The actual story was a bit of a letdown because I have dozens of sci-fi books with almost the exact same basics; mankind tries to rip resources from an alien paradise world, people start to be friends with the natives ladeedah. Now I don't actually mind this as sci-fi and fantasy are hardly original. They've been around for so long you just know there will be some overlap with other stuff you know.
The thing that did bother me was how the story unfolded I just didn't feel right with me, bit of a cheap ending.
But lo and behold Avatar will become a trilogy, at least that was Cameron's intention when he was last interviewed. That bothers me because I can't possibly see how they'll continue this story on. There will have to happen something pretty drastic to be able to drag this out into another movie let alone two.
And please god no don't let them have kids and all that...

I saw it just yesterday, and while the special effects were good and the 3D worked really well (a feast for the eye that movie was), the story wasn't all that good. The goddamn thing lasted way too long - in fact I still have a stiff neck from looking at the screen for several hours.

If they make a sequel to this, I certainly hope the story will be better, and if they can manage to restrain themselves a bit it wouldn't exactly make it a bit worse. Though just how they could continue that story is beyond me...

One that immediately pops into mind is earth not really giving up and invading it full force.

But then that would just be the first movie all over again (minus the renegade avatar part), just on a greater scale, and I doubt it would actually work. The story would be really poor and on the effect side of things it would just be a repetition.

I saw it, it was good, intresting. However the evil me was rooting for the humans the whole time. I love bad guys.

Plus it's inspired me for a new fanfic idea. Anyone intrested in the Imperium of Mankind invading Pandora? Show Quadrich how you really purge the xenos?

This movie proved my belief that Technology makes people weak

Not really, without technology humanity would not be able to travel to Pandora, let alone survive it's air. Quadrich only lost the battle due to a Dues ex Machina and even then he was winning with a disadvantage (The Nav'i knew the terrian better, had warning of his attack, superior numbers and his targeting systems where disabled)

Saw it, Loved it, 3D rocks!

Im the only one of my mates that loved it though. They were all blown away by the effects and battles etc. But the general consensus was "Cowboys and Indians in space"

But what do they know?

All right, so I'll be heading out to see it with my brother tomorrow evening and it better be brilliant. Otherwise I'll start chucking popcorn at the screen.

Seen it couple of days ago in 2D.... wasnt in the least bit impressed by the storyline actually felt my I was cheated out of money! Fantastic effects though but thats about it. Although whats with, "nature" somehow knowing that humanity are a threat and aid the Na'vi, I mean cmon why would those jackals and Thanatos suddenly give them a ride and fight with them.... even more so that Dragon....

Hmm incindary bombs was all that was needed imo

Pandora is sentient, this was explained by Weaver's character. The trees are actually nerve centers. The planet is essentially alive and aware.

They did, agaist the Hometree, it was not too effective, Pandora's plants clearly are not normal Earth plants at all. The fire did not spread at all.

And now I've found out that my brother's unavailable for tonight. Now I'm scheduled for seeing it on Thursday evening instead.

You'll have to chuck popcorn for the both of us, DoN. :)

Well I have seen it and if anyone had tried chucking popcorn I would have most likely bludgeoned them to death.

After seeing it I am extremely surprised by some of the responses on here, notably about the storyline. I fully appreciate that the story has been done before, but to be blunt I have never seen it so well put.

It is of course the story of the American Indians with twists, but this movie put it so well that I am shocked no one has said anything about it. It has nothing to do with technology, in fact it really has nothing to with aliens or anything like that. What this movie accurately portrayed is humanity. Because make no mistake, whilst most people (except Gree) will have been rooting for the Na'vi, the sad fact is the most of them are most like the humans there. We see something we want, we think it is our god given right to have it. True we may try and play nice, offer them something in exchange, but as has been seen so many times, if we can't get it at a price we like we will take it by any means. We will steal it, we will destroy for it.

Humanity has such an ego to believe that because we are the most advanced race (we know of), that we can take whatever we like. It's core values are rapidly getting degraded to the point where a life is worth next nothing, that destroying peoples whole way of life just to make a bit more money is acceptable. The little respect for others that is in this world is slowly degrading, and to be honest it is very sad.

I'm not really rooting for anybody, I just like to use flamethrowers in Avatar: The Game, and the RDA is the only one to offer that.

I don't think the movie lives up to the hype.

Visual effects are stunning, to be sure. The world they created is interesting and well thought out.

The story? Pochontas. Seriously.

The world and visuals made the movie quite enjoyable for me, but the storytelling was really weak. The cardboard cut-out antagonists (generic evil american army guy, generic evil american corporate guy), references to the war on terror (??), the attempts to glorify spiritualism, environmentalism, etc... all of it really bothered me. I've heard people say it was essentially a propaganda film and I pretty much agree. It's not always bad when you have generic bad guys, but why the allusions to the war on terror and whatnot? Why the shallow, completely one-sided and biased comments?

The way I view it is that while he is not necessarily wrong, when you're arguing against something it's absolutely essential that you take into consideration the opposing argument. You don't ignore it like Cameron did. Example: when the scientists try to explain to *generic evil corporate american guy* that the trees have some neurological connection with each other and he practically ignores what they're saying, gets a stupid look on his face like he doesn't understand, scoffs, and orders to have the tree destroyed anyways. Why are the corporate people evil, dumb, even completely oblivious to the importance of these scientific findings? Meanwhile, *generic evil army general guy* goes ahead and kills the Na'vi women and children. Unrealistic, one-sided, shallow: just a few words to describe my thoughts of the movie's plot. This kind of commentary does nothing to help people solve real issues, it just has people become more and more resentful of the things around them.

Still enjoyable overall, but it left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

I've just gotten back from the theatres and I've gotta say I liked it. The story and the procedure through the entire film was completely predictable but I'm not bothered too much about such things - 'story' is pretty far down my list for making a movie good and/or worthwhile. :)

amazing effects, maybe they could use some of that to make a 40k or fantasy movie; storyline sucks, predictable, remind me of 'dance with wolves' with kevin cosner; 'merging' with other creatures with their tenticles is a bit disturbing, i felt like yelling RAPE!!!! during the movie... the effects is the only reason worth seeing the movie for. lets hope they won't make a sequel, i know i won't be seeing that.

Well then James Cameron has finally done a George Lucas, ruining the prestige of his past great work with image (CGI) over substance (story/plot).... Geez Avatar sequels?! And Battle Angel?!

You mean Titanic had a plot? :| Lack of plot worth 3 hours of movietime.

I'm going to refrain from judging any sequels that may be made, but I really liked Avatar. :D I guess the story isn't really original but if you believe scholars there are only 13 original stories. The rest are all rip-offs essentially.

Basically, just like any other movie, some people like it and some people. I stopped trying to convince people of my opinions on movies as that generally doesn't work.

Cheers, Wolfie :clown:
