So, after getting out of the loop for a few years I find that I have a ton of old meh-painted models that could need a bit of brush-up.

Kicked off by reading up our new "temporary" rules and just snickering in disgust. Then, what the hell. 8th will be there anytime I want to play it. Just like all the other editions really.

So I took out my old Grave guard, washed off the years. Added effects.
Grabbed a few doom wolves, cut of the bases; woila; shields.

Feet not painted. Not decided on a new basing theme. Perhaps il save that until I decide to play or trade them for something new.
Any opinions?

Thanks :) The theme hit when I read the new rules for grave guard shields; and as mine is a vampire-heavy army (the female ones have roses all over...) it really needed to reconnect to that somehow.
I really need a photo-booth of some kind so that they appear more like IRL. Blur really takes away from the overall impression.
Going to add more later.
Cheerios.

So the shields are made from bases? Interesting ;) You are very brave for repeating such intricate freehands so many times  And while I'm not sure of these green accents near the bottom of their robes, I find the weathering on the metal superb! Varied and interesting!

Oh wow that freehand is fantastic, must have taken you ages. Good work man. A photo booth is very easy to make out of a shoebox and a few sheets of A3 paper and it makes all the difference

Yea, you know thosethick plates that the wolves have at the base of their feet? Those.

Its actually very simple work Lethiel. I just used blending with white to the blue on a black base. Repeated with green and brown.
The moons are very dilluted droplets of white color just allowed to dry in. And then some color on the rim and shaded with a wash.
All in all it took about an hour of actual work.

Absolutely. Most are unable to stand on their own at the moment. I plan to use Garden of Morr walls (might be skull-pass....) and cut them into parts of five that the wolves are passing over or besides to fix that. I recall having seen this solution before and liking the overall effect, more dynamic poses.

Do people usually leave those be btw? They seem to me eyesore galore.

@Novium As your wolves are without their paw bases, you could just pin them to their cavalry bases. I recently did this with some wolves I did scenic bases for.

I drilled a hole up into the paw and used a piece of a paper clip as the pin to keep them in place. I'm not sure how stable they'd be just inserted into the base, but I pinned them into resin/plastic rocks that seemed to be sufficient enough. Here's an example:
