The time has come! (I doubt anyone actually care or think this is half as exiting as I do, but anyways...)

The main reason that i wanted to start my own paintinglog is for motivation. To inspire myselfe both to get stuff done and maintain quality, but also to perhaps get advise and inspiration from you guys and hopefully even in some way be a source of inspiration or even some kind of entertaining.

Due to the poor quality of my camera and my complete lack of dicipline to do this right the photos will not in any way be great. Atleast not at first, maybe if I get enough critisicm from you guys i will embrace the noble craft of taking good pictures. But not today.

Enough nonesense, let's look at some photos. thats why you're here right?

This is my hobby area and that is most of my VC collection.

As you can see, it's not that much that is finished yet. Me and my friends decided in november that we should revive this awesome hobby and I (as a prviously Empire player) wanted a new army. I've always loved VC and would have got them right from the start if the models of that time was't so damn ugly. This edition really get me going though!

Anyways, I bought a lot of models right away and assembled and primed them to be able to play with them. Since some of my friends that jumped in with us is completly new to warhammer or/and fantasy they all did the same.

Look at me drifting away again! mumbling on like an old fool, I kinda feel like Grandpa Simpson :)

Lets look at some more photos shall we?

This, as you can see, is a bunch of skeletons. I belive there are 38 of them in there. My goal is to have 40 of them and a couple of more as reserves. The dogs is all unpainted yet, almost painted one of them yesterday but ended up reading the first book about Harry Potter instead.

Some of the Black Knights are painted but this post is not about them.

Next photo:

This Photo shows my other skeleton unit. This unit have swords and I now have 20 of them, only 13 are painted +2 almost ready as the observant surely noticed in the first picture of my work bench. The goal here is the same as with the first skellie unit. 40 of them and some reserves.

This photo also shows my necromancer who is not finished and my CH and CG who i dont like and don't wanna talk about now.

And that, i belive, will have to conclude todays post in my new paintinglog.

Since I don't know what you guys want to see or me to talk about I will be very pleased to find any desired subjects for my next post in the comments. But ofcourse any comment would make me happy!

Be well and cheers!

My god! Someone who realises that quality photographs matter! And who wishes to improve, too!

A rare pleasure, sir.

That said, I've seen much, much poorer quality photographs in this section afore now.

Truth is, there is no secret to good photograps. Use a proper camera - no mobile 'phones. Use the macro function, use good lighting, get as close to the work as possible, but do not zoom.

All easy, obvious stuff. Yet when you tell a man that the quality of advice he can receive is directly proportional to the quality of his photographs, too often he just gets huffy and leaves in disgust.

As for your models, I like your skeletons. Solid work. I feel your banners are dull, though. A little highlighting would do woners. A charge or device on the banners would be good, too. A good banner can really sell an otherwise underwhelming unit.

Another minor point is your rust effect. Well... I say rust effect, it really seems just like orrange paint. It feels artificial. Uniform and flat and, well, like orrange paint. Try drybrushing a little brown over it?

In future, I find a very satisfying rust feeling can be built up in layers. Start with a heavyish drybrush of scorched brown, then a lighter vermin brown, then tue lightest drybrushing of blazing orrange. Wash the lot with sepia or devlan mud after that.

Thank you Minty!

In truth, what i cheated with on the above pictures was good light. In the future when it's time for close ups I will try to get some kind of white background out on the balcony and use daylight. The reason I didn't do that yesterday was.

1. I was to lazy too
2. It was raining

I really agree with you on the banners, but I have a plan. You know the Von carstain shield set? theres a banner there that I want on me GG. The skeletons with sword will then get a new shiny GG banner and the skeletons with spears will get the red/white banner. The all red banner will at that point be put in the "reserve" pile :P

I understand what you mean with the rust efect being just orange. It's that new nifty technical rust-effect-paint. It is perhaps a bit too orange but I like it the way it looks. Also (This is perhaps a bit cheesy) it's not quite that orange in person.

I will continue by studying the rust on my car and experiment with diffrent kind of brown-ish to perhaps get a better rust effect.

But again, Thank you alot for showing interest!

Nice army! I love that one skeleton's huge sword... I'm sure you know who I'm talking about. ;) Also sweet orb on that necromancer... Would love a close up of that!

And man, that poor white dwarf didn't see it coming... :grave:

Hmm... strokes beard thoughtfully ...I wouldn't have guessed. I've seen the new technical paint rust look quite good afore now, so I'm willing to believe that it is just a trick of the light in this case and does look better in-person.

I look forward to seeing your new banners, though.

Thank you Kingside_Bishop!

Close ups on the Necromancer and the skeleton champion can be arranged!

And about the magazine, I like having a magazine on the table where i paint and it was either a white dwarf or a classic rock... and my girlfriend would not be glad if i took one of those.

Greetings!

Cause I've been working on my army since november and just now started this here painting log I have a few things that I'm actually finished with.

So let me show you my Konrad model

I'm pretty happy with this one. The blood on the swords and the swords themeselfe needs a little work still though.

Come closer if you wanna hear a little secret... *whispers I switched the wierd looking collar for a round little skellie shield my girlfriend painted. It's the only uns of paint on my army i did't put there myselfe and the shield really look great so you dont get to see it :P

Further more, here comes a little close up of one of my skellie champions.

IMG_4027_zps90747e38.webp

Not much to say here, it's a Empire sword and graveguard shoulderpads on a regular skeleton. (note to self, The teeth look wierd on this here photo, will have to look over that sometime)

Lastly I wanna share what I did yesterday.

IMG_4029_zps650af00e.webp

I have begun painting my dire wolfs, at last. I have never painted a dire wolf before so this is my trial-model-of-trying. I think it will turn out great but you never know.

Konnie looks awesome, dude! Killer work on his face, and the dark armor really works for me.

Thank you Adam_Barrow

I love the armor,may I steal it??!
How you achieved those tones?

Sure go ahead!
basicly just painted the armour with boltgun metal and then washed with devlian mud a couple of times and then highlighted with boltgun again. Easy peasy!

Awesome work, I love it! :)

Thank you kind Sir!

Yes, the silver armored konrad is great, nice change from the usual red xD And show us his back! xD

About the skeleton, now that you mention, he really has smoooth teeth ;) Maybe he was a celebrity before he died? The sword is a very cool addition, also

Yeah i tought so to, wanted him ...darker.
The back is just cloak and a shield i did't paint. you have to ask me nicer about it before i even concider showing it

hehe yep he was surely a actor from a toothpaste commersial :P

I just got a Cairn Wraith, pictures will follow, for the moment he's just bits of plastic in a box so not very intresting. Stay tuned :P

Oh, and just wondering, how do you do your rust with the new paint? Because in some photos it looks very bright, and in others it looks quite dark. But I get great effects by drybrushing ryza rust over typhus corrosion, as it gives it a rusty texture and a darker tone. (there's actually a guide in my plog, not that I'm plugging it, just in case you wanted to see the alternate way :P )

Not that there's anything wrong with brighter rust, as it still looks awesome! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the wraith :) I love that model, but I've never justified picking it up yet

The first pictures is taken indoor with crappy light so the colours arn't exactly true as Minty and I discussed. The photo of the Skellie champion with the giant sword is on the other hand taken outdoors. not much rust on him but there are some spots. Can you see the diffrence? It's not as bright orange as it seems to be in the first pictures.

Your rust looks awesome btw!

And Minty, I got some new crap in the "banner department" not exactly as I planned but some great stuff. I will show you guys later ;)

Cheers!

I got my hands on this little guy, as one of the (in my opinion) very few nice models from last edition I was very happy to find it.

IMG_4033_zps126a179c.webp

So this guy will probably be the standard for the GG

And I did this yesterday for the SW :)

IMG_4030_zps734f9eb2.webp

Pretty happy with how it turned out, now we just need a bit of happy colored paint on them :)

But that will have to be a job for future me.

Hello Carpe Noctem!

I think it's time to share some pictures showing what i have done this summer. I have been painting, but not as much as I wanted. Still, I got some things done.

It's raining like hell today so there will be no fancy balcony shots. So, the pictures is very poor quality. Anyways, if I would do it right, i probably wouldn't do it at all at this point. So this is still better than nothing.

This is my spearmen unit. Now its all done containing 40 models.

IMG_4034.webp

... And this is my swordsmen with their new banner, all toghether they now reached a number of 30. So 10 more of those have to be painted still!

IMG_4035.webp

This is my first unit of wolves, i painted them one week when i got sick and tired of painting skellies!

IMG_4036.webp

And this, offcourse is my Cairn wraith.

Nice looking stuff here, I like what you've done with the movement trays. I'm trying to spread the love about painting with more water as opposed to excessive drybrushing as that's something that helped me a lot. Drybrushing has it's uses though and I really like the unified feeling your army has.

Thank you Duke!

It's been a while since i last posted something here but I have been painting. So I will try to add some new pictures soon.
