Hoorido!

I found some time beside reading the new armybook and brooding over nasty lists to paint a handful of skeletons and to make a base for my Varghulf. I'm kind of a slow painter...and at the moment i'm planning to first do the glue and basing stuff before I start painting...but we'll see. Hope you like it.

Skeletons converted from the old skeletons and DE Warriors

And my varghulf, still needs some greenstuff for the gaps and some bones/corpse for the base ;)

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log

Very good job, I especially like the undead Dark Elves! I'm suprised how good their bodies look with skulls on top, and purple always looks good! =)

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log

Well done !

Your DE skelettons are really nice, and original. I'll plan to make like you, and to produce a total DE army with bones ...

Congratulation !

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log

I have finally figured out how i'm going to use my DE now,i'll turn them into a VC force!
Love the conversions ,they look great and i like the gold armour.
And the Varghulf's base is great, love the whole sewer stalker image it gives off.

Don't be a silly tiger haha. :)

I really like the Varghulf base, nice find. I admit that DE are pretty popular for conversions, but hey we can hardly put a skeleton head on an Orc, now can we? o_o

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log
First of all, thank you for your comments :)

they look great and i like the gold armour.
It is no gold at all ;). I used Mithril Silver (GW) as basecoat, then washed/inked the silver with thinned down(10xWater:1xBlack) Negro Black(Vallejo), finally I used Smokey Ink(Vallejo, great stuff :) ) to create this rusty/gold/brown effect on the armour. Last step: I drybrushed the whole thing veeery carefully with Chainmail Silver.

And what did I do in the meantime?I created some testbases for my army...the old ones looked quite boring with just sand on top.

Some small bases for ghouls/skeletons/grave guard and a larger one for my evil spirits ;)

Some more bases...

Hope you like it,

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log

The spare bits on the new skeleton sprues are just wonderful for basing, aren't they?

Nice to see someone else who did undead DE!

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log

And painted!Yes I managed to haul my brush out of the box ;)!

LEGO! :D

Make a guess what it could be ;)

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log

Might I ask how you did your bases? Both in terms of the stone parts and also the colours you used. ^^

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log

Tried to make some kind of tutorial, some pictures are blurry and some had to be shopped.

Hope its reproducible.

STEP 1: Gathering!

You need:
-Milliput Superfine White
-GW Sculpting Tool (anything else will suite you as well ;) )
-Some water
-Base of your choice
-Time (3min-5min)

STEP 2:

Put the Miliput on the base and flatten the top and the sides(use some water for this step), so that they fit on your base and have a rough shape of flagstone...

STEP 3:

Use the sharp edge of your sculpting tool to draw some furrows in it.

STEP 4:

Stap it too death with the pointy edge of your tool!

STEP 5:

Use the blase of your tool to sculp the shattered edge of your flagstones.

STEP 6:

Repeat STEP 3

STEP 7:

Use the sharp blase of your tool to create a checked pattern.Like in STEP 3 but with less force, only scratch the surface.
Wait about 3min...then randomly scratch the surface again, add some holes if you like.

Add some sand/bones/whatever...
I used Negro Black(Vallejo) for the basecoat, then drybrushed with Cold Grey(Vallejo) and then added Dead White(Vallejo) and pure white for the finish.

I also magaged to paint some ghoules, they still need some highlights here and there but are almost finished.

Last but not least I did some work on my LEGO project

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log

The GG conversion is great, although i do think the Skull is a little high up.
The Wight king is fantastic! The grave guard parts work really well with the bretonnian kinght box.
Looking forward to seeing the Wight king painted!

RE: Karez's Vampire Count Painting Log

Finally I found my thread on the 4th page :D

I'm very sorry, that I had no time to post images recently.

Very groovy table. I like the graveyard with altar a lot. Did you make all the terrain from foam?

I like the highlighting of the varghulf. Nice purple, not out of place. Is there a well he's standing on?

I like the work so far. Looks great with all the conversions and your great basing techniques. So do you build the bases before or after you know what is going on them? Or do you just make a big batch and put them on no matter what.
